part of this specitica'tion.
ence being had to the accompanying drawing forming The figure is a perspective view .of a curtain ap-` plied toa window in accordance wit-h my improvements. p
My invention has forits object to improve the operation of window-curtains, Awhereby the tension' of the operating-cord is preserved under all circumstances, and the curtain prevented from heilig wound unevenly upon the operating-roller. I
The invention consists in the combination of a guiding-wire, for. the lower `curtain-stick,v and a spiral' spring for preserving the tension of the operatingeord, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In theaccompanying drawing- A`is the window-casing, and
B is the curtain, hung to Athe casing upon brackets C.
D is the operating cord, passing over one grooved pulley E, secured to the end ot the upper curtainroller, in `the usual manner.
F is a spiral spring, secured, at its lower end, to the wimlow-casing by means of a screw or nail, having a removable head, G. I pre-fer to employ au ordinary picture nail.
The upper free end of the spring may also be provided, it' desired, 'with a stud, having a removable head, E, around which `.the operating cord passes, as shown in the drawing.
By this arrangement, the tension' of the operating .cordism-@served under all circumstances, while the spring, heilig free at one end, is always in a line with vithe cord, and prevents the lat-ter from casually slipping ofi' the grooved pulley E of the curtain-roller.
A. By. unscrewing the heads G, the spring is readily' removed from theicasing andcord, for a change ot' -f locuticlncr the substitution of a new spring.
' H is a wire orccrd, estendingalong the sideho't the casing, parallel to the edge-of the curtain, to receive an eye, I,'in one end of the curtain-stick J, as shown.
This wire is held out from the casing, to' permit the free vertical movementY of the end of the curtain- 1 stick bymeans of small eyes, K, by which, also, said wire is attached to the casing.
By this arrangement thecurtain is guided in vertical lines, andprcvented from slipping o either end v of the roller during its operation. Having described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The guiding-wire H and the spiral spring I, provided with the nail or stud, having a removable head, I
G, in 'combination with the curtain, its rollers, and sticks, and the operating cord, as hereinv shown and described, for the purpose specified.
