To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY E. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing- Machine Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in attachments for sewing machines, the object of the invention being to produce an attachment adapted to revolve with the revolution of the fly wheel of the machine, on which attachment may be fastened a fan, a grinding stone, a spool, and various and sundry other devices equally useful around a sewing machine.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.

These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of the parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

On the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure l is a side elevation of the complete attachment. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of the attachment showing the means for securing a spool thereon. Fig. 4 is a similar view showing a means for securing a fan thereon. Fig. 5 is still another similar View showing a means for securing a grind stone thereon.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the body of the sewing machine and 2 the fly wheel thereon.

The numeral 3 designates a plurality of spring clips adapted to fit over the rim of the wheel 2 and being provided with spring hooks 4 adapted to receive projecting wire frame members 5 carrying on their outer ends, a shaft 6. The shaft 6 is provided with resilient stop members 7 at one end and at its other end is threaded as at 8 to receive a wing nut 9.

The numeral 10 designates a fan having its blades turned both ways so that regardless of which way the wheel 2 might turn (according to the make of the machine) the fan will produce an air blast. This fan 10 is provided with a sleeve 11 adapted to fit over the shaft 6 and abut against the stop members 7 and be held in position by the wing nut 9. The numeral 12 designates a spool which may be similarly secured upon the shaft 6 for the purpose of winding the thread or yarn thereupon. The numeral 13 designates a grinding stone which may be similarly disposed on the shaft 6 for the purpose of grinding scissors, knives or similar articles. Each spring clip 3 comprises a curved portion 3 adapted to fit around one of the spokes 2 of the wheel 2. At each end of the curved portion 3 is a transverse curved portion 3 adapted to extend around the rim of the wheel 2 and at the ends of each of the curved portions 3 is disposed one of the hooks 4. By means of the spring clips 3, this device may be quickly placed in position on the wheel or may be readily removed.

From the foregoing description it will readily appear that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in de tail the present and preferred construction. of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
