read-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
,The object of the invention is to provide a metallic railroad tie which is practical.
A further object of the invention is to provide a metallic tie which may be of drawn metal havi'ng parts adapted for such a typeof tie.
To these ends and also to improve generally upon devices of the class specified, the invention consists in the various matters hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure -1- is a perspective view of one end of the tie having the various parts sepa.- rate'd to -conveniently illustrate the Same. Fig. 2- is a lateral view of the tie com plete with the rails in place. Fig. -3- shows the preferred type of a clamp for said rails.
Referring to the drawings as the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the body part of the tie -1--,'w hich is of one piece, has a base section flange section -3- arranged at right angles to each other so that the body part of the tie is preferably inverted T shaped in cross section. Projections -4-- are arranged at the ends of the tie and are ada ted to be sunk inte the ground to assist in olding said tie in place. The flange section "3# is partially out away, as at -5-, by any convenient method thereby providing space fora metallic receptacle tlpreferably box shaped and having lips -7- with a racked surface. The sides of said receptacle are slotted as at E3- to lit over the flange por- 1 tion i3- and the receptacle is preferably positively held in place in said tie by angle iron braces v-9- conveniently riveted in place. Arranged in said receptacle is a resilient block ---10- constructed of wood,
leather, paper or any suitable resilient substance; rails #l1- rest on said block 1G and are preferably secured in place by means of the claires -1Q-- which engage the lips lt will be seen that the device is especially adapted for a metallic tie made of drawn metal so that the tie may be strong durableV and the body portion` thereof in one piece while the separable parts are especially constructed for this type of a tie.
l. A one piece metallic railroad tie T shaped inv cross section partially out away to receive a receptacle carrying a resilient block for a rail, means for securing said rece taole in place and means for holding sai rail consisting of clamps for said rail in toothed engagement with racked lips integral with said receptacle. Y
2. A one piece metallic railroad tie shaped in cross section having a base section and a flange sectiomsaid flange section par-- tially cut away, a receptacle in slotted engagement with said flange section, a resilient block slotted longitudinally restin on said base section on each side of sai flange section, means for securing said receptacle in place and means for holding said rail on said resilient block.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
