Tinprovements in Threshing -ltlachine Covers. ot which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to threshing machines and similar farm apparatus, and more particularly to protecting covers therefor. and has for its object to provide a cover which may be attached especially to a threshing machine and which will include protecting curtains which may he quickly and simultaneously lowered or raised as de' sired.

Another object is to provide a structure of this character in which the curtain supporting portions mayv be raised or lowered as desired to suit different conditions and the curtain thus raised and lowered bodily.

Other objects and advantagea will lle apparent from the following description, and

it will he umlerstood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may he made within the scope of the claim Vwith ont departing from the spirit ot the inven tion.

ln the drawings forming a part of his specification, and in which like numerals of ralerence indicate similar parts in the several views. Figure 1 is a side elevation of a threshing machine with the present invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a front View, the front curtains being removed, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the manner in which the actuating ropes and the curtains are attached to the supporting frame.

Yteterring now to the drawings, there is shown a threshing machine 5, upon which there are disposed a pair of uprights 6 and 7. These uprights are braced attheir lower ends by diagonal members 8, and as shown, they are termed of T-iron, the ribs 9 thereof being;- directed outwardly. A sleeve 10 is slidably engaged upon each of the uprights G and 7, the@ brackets 10 having forwardly extending vebs 1l, which are hollow and which rece. the ribs 9 of the uprights. The webs 11 are provided with horizontal passages A' ari anged for interchangeable registration with transverse passages 13 f rmed in 'he ribs l), for the reception of retaining pi'. i. lel. ln this way the sleeves 10 may be shi lcd vertically upon the uprights lla Similar sleeves 15 are engaged with the portions of the uprights above the sleeves 10, and geared upon these'sleevcs 15 there are a pair of parallel transversely extending end frame members 17 and 18 respectively, which are connected at their 'ends by longitudinal frame members 19 and 2O respectively. The end frame members 17 and 18 are supported against rocking movement upon the sleeves 15 by diagonal braces21 connected with the end members at opposite sides of the sleeves 15 and extending downwardly and inwardly and having their lower ends sea-ted in sockets 10 formed in t-he sleeves 10. A supporting frame A is thus provided which may be adjusted vertically by movement of the sleeves 10 upon the uprights 6 and 7 as will be understood. Connecting devices 22 are located at the corners of the frame A, and have sockets (not shown) which receive the ends of the members of the frame as shown. These members 22 also have sockets 23 which receive the outer ends 0f inwardly and upwardly inclined members 24 connected at their inner ends by means of a metallic device. 25, which also receive and hold the end of a ridge pole 26. The side members 19 and 20 arerbeveled to produce sharp outer edges D, and engaged with these edges there are depending longitudinally extending side curtains 27, which coperate with a canvas or other suitable cover 28 which is dispo-sed upon the ridgey pole 26 and the members 24.

Disposed at their lower ends uponu the end members 17 and 18, there are short uprights 28, which are secured at their upper ends to the ridge pole 26, and secured against the sides of these uprights there are boxings 29 in which there is revolubly mounted a longitudinally extending horizontal shaft 30. As shown, a central support 31 is provided for the frame A and is equipped with sleeves similar to the first named supports 6 and 7, one of these sleeves being connected to a transversely extending member 32 which 'is parallel to the members 17 and 18, and

which is secured at its ends to the side members 19 and 20. A short upright 33 is mounted upon the member 32 and is secured to the ridge pole 26. The shaft 30 extends through a third boxing indicated at 29 upon the short upright 33, and mounted upon this shaft at opposite sides of the upright 33 there is a drum, these drums being indicated at 34 and 35 respectively. A pair of drums 'which extend longitudinally are mounted upon the ,the rearward upright 28'., The curtains 27 36 and 37 respectively are mounted upon the shaft 30 adjacent to the forward upright 28 and a similar pair of drums38 and 39 shaft 30 adjacent to are provided at their lower'edges with attached rollers 140, and the curtains are rolled upwardly and inwardly around these rollers to be raised. y

The curtains 27 and the covering fabric are secured to the side inembers 19'and 20 the eyes 43, and extends ldownwardly over the outer surface of the and inwardly beneath lthe rolled lower edge of the curtain and then upwardlyand inwardly over a :roller 45 mounted in the frame A, and thence to the corresponding drum of the shaft 30. The cables of each Apair of drums extend oppositely therefrom,

.so that when the shaft is rotated in one direction all of the cables will be wound upon the drums and when the shaft is rotated in the opposite direction the cableswill be unwound.

The shaft 30 extends beyond the forward short upright 28, as shown, and at this forward portion it carries a drum 46 about which there is engaged one turn of a continuous cable 47 which depends from the drum. It will thus be seen that when one e shaft 30. A cablev side of the cable 47 is pulled downwardly,

the drum 46 will be revolved and therewith the shaft 30 will be turned to rotate the drums 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 and 39, and wind" drop. As shown the end`uprights6 and 7 are offset laterally from the central upright 31, to give room for the wind stacker of the threshing machine. As shown, the ends of the cover are provided with eyelets Z for the attachment of suppleinentalcurtains X.

What is claimed is:

The combinatio-n with a roofhaving a series of spaced supports; of curtains se cured tothe lateral edges of the roof, rollers secured .to the free edges of said curtains, said curtains being wound on said rollers as the curtains are raised, a single shaft ex tending longitudinally beneath said roof, a series of drums xed on said shaft, means to rotate the shaft, and a plurality of series of curtain raising and rolling ropes, the ropes of each series each having one end secured to a respective roof edge and extending around the respective curtain and roller-,-

the remaining ends being all attached to said drums to wind thereon simultaneously when the shaft is rotated in one direction and thereby simultaneously roll up both curtains.
