the bearing 25, as shown in Fig. 2. The inner end of the shaft 10, is partly carried within this sleeve 26.
Secured to the front and wall sections 20 and 20, and the end sections 16 and 18, are the hooks 32, which are a "ranged to receive the upper ends of stockings or other suitable receptacles.
Secured to the under portion of the bottom 23, are the steel comb teeth 40, shown in Fig. 10, a number of such teeth being used and these teeth are placed in the path of the revolving pick loop 11. Secured to the dash section 18, held below the bottom 23, are similar steel combs, having teeth 40. These teeth are graduated and are tuned so as to emit a musical sound, when struck by the pick loop 11. Secured to and wound about the drum 27, is a strand 30, having a hook 7, secured to a weight 8, in the form of a star.
Secured to the dash portion 18, by means of the flanges 3, shown in Fig. 1, are two similar side members 2, connected transversely by means of the supporting plate 4, having the securing flanges 5, as shown in Fig. 9. These side members 2, have the openings 39 and 40. Held within the openings 39, is a pin 36, which carries the rear or main rocker 35, this rocker is in the form of a plate at one end having the ear 51. Near the end carrying the ear 51, the rocker 35, is provided with a plurality of openings 37, within which a screw 35, is removably held. By means of the pin 36, the rocker 35, is pivotally held between the members 2. The member 35, has the upstanding stiffening edge flanges 45, and it is within these flanges that the pin 36 is held. Tithin the forward end of the rocker 35, is an opening 51 into which is hooked the lower end of the link 5-0. Near the forward end of this rocker 35, are secured two figures A, representing reindeer, each carrying a bell a. Near the rear the rocker carries the figure C, representing Santa Claus, this figure being secured by means of the screw 35, passing through one of the openings 37. The figure C, serves also as a connterpoise. As shown in Fig. 2, the rear end of the rocker 35, extends a suitable distance beyond the forward end 18, of the sleigh body. Pivotally held to a pin 43, passing through the side members 2, is the auxiliary rocker 42, having the upstanding flange 42, and to this forward rocking plate are secured two figures B, also representing reindeer, which also carry the bells a. The flanges 42, of this rocker 42, carry a pin 52 which is arranged to pivotally hold the upper end of the link 50, in the manner disclosed in Fig. 1. Hooked within the ear 51, forming a part of the rocker 35, is the link 53 which has its lower end in engagement with the crank 12 of the shaft 10. It is through this connecting link 53 that the movement of the shaft 10 is imparted to the rockers.
The toy is intended to be secured to a wall or any other suitable vertical support by means of tacks or screws inserted through the supporting ears 19.
If the device is to be used on Christmas eve, stockings supposed to be filled by Santa Claus, are suspended from the hooks 32. In lieu of the stockings, cornucopias or other containers may be used.
In order to set the device in operation the sleeve 26, is rotated by means of the operating knob 29, so that the strand 30, is wound upon the drum 27. In the winding operation of the strand the ratchet works under the pawl. As soon as the shaft 26, is released to bring into play the weight or gravity of the star 8, the ratchet 28, engages the pawl 14, and results in rotating the shaft 10. As this shaft rotates the pick loop 11, contacts with the combs and causes a musical sound. At the same time the crank 12, actuates the link 53, resulting in the plate 35-, being rocked or vibrated upon its pivotal support 36. This rocker 35, however, by means of the link 50, is connected to the forward rocker 42, so that a rocking movement is simultaneously imparted to this forward: member 42. By virtue of the connecting link 50, as the forward end of the main or rear rocker 35, rises, the rear end of the plate 42, is also made to rise so that the figures of the deer are given an alternate movement, that is, as the heads of the forward deer rise, the heads of the rear deer fall. As the rocker 35, is actuated, the figure of Santa Claus has also imparted to it an up and down movement. It is this rocking movement of the figures A and B, that causes the ringing of the bells a.
If it should be desired to operate the de vice without the weight 8, the operator simply actuates the shaft 10, by means of the hand crank 16, which is positioned immediately in front of the dash section 18.
The front and end panels may be embellished by means of suitable legends and the whole toy is of course appropriately colored. The members 2, may have their upper edges serrated or scalloped to represent a snow ridge over which the deer are passing.
