PLOW ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED 001 .29, 1912.

INVENTOR WLLlium I! Summons 1L3 ,iXAl/arney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM T. SIMMONS, OF LANGLEY, ARKANSAS.
PLOW ATTACHMENT.
Application filed October 29, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IVILLIAM T. SIMMONS, acitizen of the United States, residing at Langley, in the county of Pike and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to plows and has special reference to a novel mold board at tachment.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described having an extension which lies beneath the shoe of the plow and forms a bar to prevent side movement of said plow.
A second object of the invention is to provide an extension of this character lying beneath the point to add to the thickness of the point and prevent wear thereon.
A third object of the invention is to provide a novel blank from which such a mold board extension may be made.
Vith the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in general of certain novel constructions, combinations and ar ragements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section through the plow stock. Fig. 3 is a view of the blank from which the mold board is formed.
In the construction of this mold board a plate of metal is cut in the form shown in Fig. 3. In cutting this plate it is to be noted that there is provided a forward diagonal edge 10 above a fold line 11, a second forward diagonal edge 12 below this fold line, a straight bottom edge 13 parallel to the fold line, a rear shoe edge 14; perpendicular to the last-1nentioned edge, a straight edge 15 forming a continuation of the fold Specification of Letters Patent.

line, a rear vertical edge 16, and a curved rear and top edge 17 The plate is also punched as at 18 to provide a bolt hole. When the plate is thus formed it is bent at right angles along the fold line 11 and the upper part of the plate slightly curved to form the mold board. The plow standard is then positioned as at 19 back of this portion bounded by the fold line 11 and the lines 19., 18, and 1 and a suitable bolt 20 is used to secure the device in position.
Now it will be noted that by reason of the forward projection betore the standard that part of the device acts to prevent wear of the point and thus adds greatly to the life of the plow. There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is 2- A blank for a mold board for a plow comprising a body having a flange adapted to be bent at right angles to said body, said body provided with an aperture for means passing through said aperture for attaching said body to a standard, a portion of said body adapted to be bent slightly backward and curved slightly to form a mold board, the lower end of said flange formed diagonally toward the lower end thereof, so as to form a point for digging into the earth, and said body provided with a substantially U- shaped portion by forming said flange and bending a portion of said body to form the mold board, said U-shaped portion constituting a shield for a standard and also constituting a means for holding said mold board upon a standard and relieving the strain from the attaching means.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM T. SIMMONS.
