To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, "WALTER P. MURPHY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident .of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have rigging on the line 2-:-2; and Fig. 3 is an- ,end elevation of the car, broken-away, with my rigging applied.

The eye is of such diameter that there is no material fric- 'f tion between it and the rod 5. The inner end of the lever 8 has a return bend forming a hook 11. The lever 8 is of such diameter that it is adapted to readily pass through the eye 3 of the standard locking pin. 'To elevate the locking pin, the rod 5 is revolved by means of the crank 6, whereupon the crank? is elevated carrying with it the lever ,8,,'?ywhich in turn elevates the locking pm. This construction is such that the draw bar islfree to move backwardahd forward or sidewise without damage. 'In the event of the" drawbar dropping byreason of-a break I, in the draft rigging, the crank 6 will be thrown against the end sill, so as to. prevent a complete revolution of the bar the crank i is sustained, which results in the locking-pin being withdrawn,- whereby the car with the damaged coupler will be aut0- 'matically released from the balance of the train, thus preventing an accident.
What I claim is 1. A release rigging comprising a hand operatedlever, a crank on the inner end of said lever, a pin operating lever loosely journaled on the hand lever, having a floating bearing on the hand lever, whereby the pin lever may be swung bodily on its journal.
2. A release rigging for car couplers comthe crank of prising a rod mounted on the end sill of the car and provided at one end with a normally horizontal crank and at the other end with a normally vertical handle a pin lifting lever attached at one end to the locking pin and fulcrumed at, its other end on the hand I operated rod, the crank of said'rod engaging the pin lifting lever between the lock-, ing pin and its fulcrum.
3. A release rigging comprising a revoluble hand operated rod having a crank at its so inner end, and a pin operating lever having a right angle bend at its outer end terminating in an eye by means of which the pin lever is loosely journaled on said hand lever,
