Bc it known that I, REGINA Kanu, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county-otl Milwaukee, and State ot' Wisconsin, have invented neu and useful Iniproveiuents in Gaslgniters, oi which the following is a specification.
My iiivcntionvrel-ates to improvements in that class of gas igniters, which are adapted ,to be centrally located between a plurality of gas burners and by which the gas when turned on to any one' or more of said burners, may be instantly ignited by jets of b irnii'ig gas from said central igniter.
-Ileretofore gas has been led to a pilot light located in a central chamber through a separate small capillary tube while a larger volume ot' gas' has been led to and discharged into said central chamber through a larger tube, whereby when desirous to ignite the gas in any one or more ot' said burners, the valve leading to Said central chamber is opened and quickly closed, whereby a radial jet of flame iscaused to Hash out from said central chainber to the several burners of the stove, and wliei'eby the gas in any one or more of said buriierslias been instantly ignited.` By n my present improvement, however, a sepaf rate capillary tube for conducting gas to the pilot light in said central chamber is dispensed with and the required volume ot gas tor maintaining one oi'nioie )ilot lights y in such chamber is led thereto through the main large duct. and the small capillary tube heretofore used yfor maintaining a pilot light in an ignitcr is dispensed with. y

1 represents the top of a stove of ordinary construction and Q are gas burners used in connection with such stove. The several burners are connected with the main gas supply pipe 3 b the several gas ducts a, and admission ot gas to saidugas ducts and burners is controlled by the several valves 5, all of which parts thus Al'ar described are substantially ol ordinary construction.4

It will be understood that. a large volume ot gas is admitted to the central chamber 6 from the main gas duct 3 by opening the valve 8 and that a pilot light or constant llame is ada )ted to be maintained in said cental chamlier (S, whereby when'the valve 8 is opened, the gas which is admitted to said chamber is instantaneously ignited when it flashes outwardly radially, as indicated in lf`igs. 1` and 3, whereby the gas which has been turned on to any one of the several burners 2 is instantaneously ignited as previously stated. The pilot light in the chamber G is constantly maintained in the chamber by admitting gas from the main supply duct 3 through a by pass 16, when it .passes from tliencelo said central chain-4 her G through the valve chamber 12 and gas its duct 7, when `four small radial pilot lig are maintained in said chamber 6. `\Vhen, however, a larger volume of gas is admitted to the chamber (l by opening the valve 8,
such larger volume of gas is instantaneously ignited and caused toilash outwardly radially as heretofore described for the par ose of'lighting the gas in any one or more o the several burners. The passage of gas through the by pass 16 is controlled by the needle valve 1 7 and said valve 17 is adjusted forwardly or backwardly by the threaded member 18 formed integrally therewith, and said member 18 is provided with a knurled head 1,9 by which it Ais turned `forwardly and backwardly when adjusting the needle valve toward or from its seat. 20 represents the Aradial ports through which the gas escapes for maintaining both the pilot.V lights and `producing the radial jets of iame by Which gas is ignited in the several burners.
