HENRY C. HINE, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE TRAUT 8a 'HINE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
SUSPENDERS.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY C. IIINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to suspender construction and specifically to ay cord guide support constructed to obviate the rubbing Contact of the cord guide with the body or garments of the wearer. In such constructions where a cord guide is employed that moves with the movements of the body, inconvenience and destruction of garments is caused by the rubbing contact of the moving guide with such garments and it is the object of my invention to provide a structure which is not subject to this objection. These and other advantages will be apparent from the more detailed description following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part thereof and illustrating a preferable embodiment of the invention.
In these drawings: Figure l is a view in elevation of the rear section of a suspender provided with cord guide supports constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of a cord guide support detached. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4L is a vertical section on an enlarged scale taken on the line -m of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1-1 indicates the usual shoulder or main straps of a suspender and 2 the back strap thereof.
3 designates a continuous cord structure connecting the rear or back ends of the shoulder straps 1-1 with the upper and lower ends of the back strap 2 in the usual manner in this type of suspender, the cord 3 running through a. number of tubular guides 4 carried by the ends of these straps. As hitherto constructed these tubular cord guides rub against the garment over which the suspender is worn, wearing out and frequently discoloring the fabric at such points of contact. To obviate this defect I have Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 3, 1912` Patented J une 24, 1913.
Serial No. 713,037.
provided the following structure: rIhe ends of the shoulder and back straps are looped through slots 6 formed in loop plates 5 and are sewed to the main body of the strap in the usual manner. These loop plates 5 are provided with central lateral extensions 7 which are embraced on either side by the arms of the tubular cord guides I which are journaled thereon by means of tubular rivets S. Extending from the rear face of the loop plates are offset arms 9 having their outer ends curved on an arc corresponding to the arc of movement of the pivoted cord guides 4, the inner faces of these curved ends of the arms lying in the rear of the central lateral extensions and in the rear of and closely adjacent the rear faces of the tubular guides, thereby preventing said guides from contacting with the body or garment of the wearer. There it is necessary to provide more than one tubular cord guide on a loop plate, as at the upper end of the back strap in the specific form of suspender construction illustrated, similar additional lateral extensions and cooperating offset arms are formed on the loop plate. In Figs. 2 and 3 such additional lateral extensions are formed at opposite sides of the central extensions and are indicated at l0 and 1l, their corresponding offset arms being shown at l2 and 13 respectively.
From the foregoing I believe the construction and utility of the device will be clear. While I have illustrated a specific embodiment thereof, structural modifications are possible within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
IVhat I claim therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character described, a loop plate having a cord guide pivoted thereon, an offset extending from the rear of said plate and located at the rear of said pivoted guide and lying in the arc of movement thereof.
STANLEY PARKER.
