Description
No. 106,578.- 'PATENTBD AUG. 23, 1-870. J. w; HANDSHY. HEAD BLOCK FOR SAWMILLS.
amt some agatwt Gtiliiitt.
Letters Patent N 106,578, dated August 23, 1870.
mpnovnmnn'r m HEAD-BLOCKS ron SAW-MILLS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part at the lam To all whom't't may concern:
Be it known that I'ffJAcoB W. HANDSHY, of Zanesville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvenrents in Head-Blocks for Sa\vMills, of which the following isa. full, clear, and exact description, refercncc being had to the accompanying drawing which makes part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved head-block, and
Figure 2 a vertical transverse section through the same.
The object of my invention is to facilitate the bandling of the log; and
My improvement consistsln combining with'the head-block and its vertical roller, a horizontal roller on the frame, on which roller the log rests, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
The frame A is secured transversely upon the car ria-ge, in the usual way.
A bead-block, B, slides lengthwise in a slot in this frame, being moved back and forth by a screw, 0,011- erated by'a hand-wheel, I).
A pawl, d, on the frame, takes into a ratchet-wheel c, on the screw, and prevents it from being turned in the wrong direction.
A gauge or scale, a, is markedmn the frame, and an index, 0, is placed on the head-block B, to measure accurately the thickness of the plank to be out.
A roller, 1", is mounted in proper bearings in the head-block, so as to turn freely therein; the face of the log being sawed, bears against this roller.
Another roller, G, is mounted in hearings on the frame A, and likewise turns ti-eely therein. Two or.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed.
my name.
JACOB W. H'ANDSHY.
