To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILHELM RtioKnRT, a citizen of the German Empire, and residing at I-Ianover-VViilfel, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stops for Doors, of which the following is a specification.

The subject-matter of my invention is an automatic door-stop arranged to be opened from the outside, in which, when closing the door, a hook is caused to tilt over by means of a pin mounted on the door and to become coupled with said pin.

Door-bolts are known in which, when closing the door, horizontally mounted, slotted swinging members are caused to tilt over by means of a T-piece mounted on the door and Such devices cannot, however, be opened from the outside. Further, for opening them from the inside both hands are necessary, because when the swinging member is being rocked into its openposition the door must be simultaneously opened by the latch.

A primary object of my invention is to provide an improved door-stop of the type described to which these defects are not attached. To this end, the hook used in my door-stop is provided with an oval slot or eye. This is mounted with play in an eye piece. In the unlocked position of the device the hook is tilted upward and rests in a slot which is formed by two angular projections which like the eye piece are connected with the bolt of the snap-lock mounted on the door-post. The end of the bolt is secured in its locking position by two springs and can be removed together with the hook thereon after being released by means of a key.

One illustrative embodiment of my invention is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation showing my device in its open position, Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof in the same position, the dot-ted lines showing the hook in its locking position, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device.

Referring to the drawing, the look a is so mounted on the door-post that the two upper screws are covered by the bolt 3;. The hook 0 has an oval eye 0 which is mounted with play in the eye piece 9. The hook is tilted upward in its open position and then rests in the slot on which is formed by two angular projections z and 2' which like the eye piece 9 are connected with the part p of the bolt which is located on the doorpost and mounted in the snap-lock a. The pin f provided with the attachment plate 6 is so attached to the movable door that when the door is being shut the pin tilts over the hook 0 by abutting against its port-ion 0 and becomes coupled therewith, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. When the door is now opened the pin f is shifted to the end of the slot 1". Consequently, the door can be only partially opened. The stop can be released from the inside by tilting the hook 0 upward. The door can be opened from the outside only with a key which fits the lock. The door is then opened as far as the stop admits thereof. The key is then passed through the narrow opening made by the door and placed over the pin it projecting somewhat out of the lock. At this place the bolt ofthe lock is reduced, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and a space 0 is formed in which the key can be turned to the left as far as the stop 8. The springs 11 and a are thereby pressed apart and release the bolt or its shoulders la and 70 so that the bolt together with the hook a mounted thereon can be lifted out. After the person has entered through the door the hook c is inserted into the lock and the key withdrawn. The springs n and 11, again secure the lock in its closed position. The keyhole cannot be seen from the outside and therefore can be opened only with considerable difliculty by means of a false key if the same does not fit exactly. The hook 0 can also be turned sidewise, whereby the automatic door-stop can be rendered inoperative while the door is bolted. In the former case a nail or screw will be fixed in the door-post at the height of the eye piece 9 for holding the hook c, in the latter case a bridge will be fastened at b of the plate 5, which bridge must be so bro-ad that the hook 0 has room behind it. Further, in order to prevent the door being opened fro-1n the outside when any one is in the room, it is possible to provide a bolt at the lower portion of the hook c.

I claim In an automatic door-stop arranged for being opened from the outside, the combination with a snap-lock comprising a bolt mounted on the doorpost, an eye piece mounted on the bolt, a hook having an oval eye mounted with play on the eye piece, a guide on the bolt for guiding the hook, and a pin mounted on the door and adapted to coact with said hook and rock the same down out of said guide, whereupon the hook automatically engages the pin; the bolt together with the hook being able to be re- 1 moved from the look after the lock has been unlocked by means of a key. 10
