To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spinning-Machine Clearers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in spinning machine clearers, and the objectof the invention is to provide a new, novel and improved clearer, and means for supporting same, which will allow the clearer to be readily and easily removed or lifted to permit the accumulation of lint to be cleaned from the wipers, or to allow of access to the rolls of the machine.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a cross section taken through the rolls of a spinning machine, equipped with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the clearer. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Figs. a and 5 are detail perspective views of the stands that support the clearer.

As is well known, spinning machines are divided into sections, each of which consists of eight driven or bobbin rolls in line and in series of three, and eight top rolls in series of three, the top rolls being individually removable.

The bottom rolls 1 and the top rolls 2 are depicted in Fig. 1, as being supported in the usual stand 3. Secured to the stand 3 in proper spaced relation are the clearer stands a and 5 each consisting of a curved arm having a perforated base 6 to enable same to be secured to the stand 3 by means of bolts. Each of the stands a and 5 have curved lugs T at their outer or free ends for engagement with the inner faces of the ends of the curved outer side 8 of the metal base 9 of the clearer. The stands 1 and 5 are further provided with integral pins 10 and curved lips 11, arranged in spaced relation to receive the ends of the opposite curved side 12 of the base 9, the pins engaging the inner faces of said ends of side 12 and the lips being disposed on the outer faces of said ends of side 12.

A wood board 13 is arranged in the base 9 between the sides thereof and has screws 14 secured to its ends, the screws passing through slots provided therefor in lugs 15 formed on plates 16 that are riveted to the metal base 9, by which means the board 13 may be removed and replaced. The wipers 17 are formed of endless bands of heavy fabric that extend transverse of the length of the clearer and are arranged in spaced relation thereon, each of the wipers being brought to bear on the upper end of the lip 11, the latter will support same against further outward movement.

The clearer stand depicted in Fig. 5 of the drawings has a pair of each of the curved lugs 7, the pins 10, and the curved lips 11, in order that same may support a clearer on and from each side thereof.

The endless wipers present the advantage of allowing the same to be moved with respect to their supporting rods, so as to pre sent a new surface upon wear of the exposed portion thereof.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A clearer for spinning machines consisting of a metal base having its sideedge portions curved, a wood board secured to said base in the space between its said curved sides, a series of pairs of parallel U-shaped rods having their ends secured in said board, endless fabric wipers supported by said rods, and a pair of stands for the base each consisting of a curved arm having a curved lug at one end to engage the inner face of one curved side of the base at one end thereof, each arm further having a pin and a curved lip spaced therefrom to receive the opposite end of the opposite curved side of the base.

A clearer for spinning machines, including a wiper carrying member having its front and rear side at the ends thereof curved, and a pair of stands which have curved lugs to engage the inner faces of the front curved ends of the member, a curved lip carried by each arm to engage the outer faces of the rear curved ends of the member,

and a pin also carried by each arm and located concentrically with respect to the lip, the pins being for engagement- With the inner faces of the said rear curved ends of the member.

3. A clearer for spinning machines, including a Wiper carrying member having its front and rear side at the ends thereof turned inwardly, a pair of stands having lugs to engage the faces of the front ends of the member, and means on the stands to engage the inner and outer faces of the rear ends of the member so as to pivotally support the latter.

4-. A clearer for spinning machines, in-

eluding a metal Wiper carrying member having its rear side turned inwardly, a pair of stands, means carried by the stands to engage the member to limit the downward movement thereof, and means also carried by the stands to engage the inner and outer faces of said intnrned rear side of the member to pivotally support the latter.
