T all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES \V. PARSONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harper, in the county of Harper and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Collar Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The present invention relates to improvements in that class of horse collars which eliminate the use of still pads, swells and wales which have been found bulky and dis agreeable and add to the weight of the collar when in use, and the object of the present invention is to provide a collar of this character which comprises laminated pieces of leather having a firm and easy bearing upon the shoulders of the horse and which are adapted to conform to the movement of the horse without causing friction or the rolling movement common in ordinary collars.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a collar of this character which is adapted to be detachably secured to the hames, which can be adjusted to the desired size, comparatively light in weight, strong, durable and eificient in use and which will greatly reduce the present cost of manufacture.

Other objects will appear hereinafter as the description continues.

With the above and other objects in view this invent-ion consists of the sectional hame plate collar having novel features of construction, combination, formation and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Reference now being had to the accompanying drawings wherein I have desig nated corresponding parts by like numerals in the several views, the improved collar comprises three sections formed of laminated sheets of leather adjustably connected together. The medial section indicated by the numeral 1 is curved to conform to the curvature of the neck of the horse and comprises two plies of leather being suitably stitched together and the inner ply thereof being provided With depending extensions 2 Specification of Letters Patent.

having their lower edges beveled for a purpose which will be hereinafter described. The extremities ofthe outer sheet of leather of the section 1 have secured thereto straps 3. These straps 3 are adapted to be adjustably connected to the buckles 4. permanently mounted upon the upper ends of the depending side members 5 of the collar. These side members are substantially rectangular in shape and are formed of laminated sheets of leather and have their lower extremities converging on curved lines to a point indicated by the numerals 6. These depending side portions are relatively thick to prevent the hames from hearing against the shoulder of the horse and also are elastic so that the power will yield to the motion of the horse and bear upon the shoulders of the latter without causing friction, which obviously renders the collar made in this manner more comfortable and easy to the horse than others having a stiff pad or body. It is obvious from the drawing that the upper ends of the depending portions of the collar rest upon the extensions 2 of the central section and the lower extremities of these extensions are beveled so that they will rest snugly upon the depending side members of the collar and prevent the same from wrinkling the skin of the horse or otherwise injuring him. It is further apparent that these depending side members may be adjusted with relation to the center section thereby providing a collar which will fit various size horses.

Each of the sections of the collar are provided with straps 8 which are permanently secured thereto by means of rivets or the like and are provided with buckles by which the same may be adjusted. In the drawings I have illustrated five of these buckles, two being secured to each of the depending side portions and one upon the intermediate section of the collar. These straps are adapted to be connected to the hames thereby eliminating any pads or wales to keep the hames upon the collar and these straps are secured to the collar adjacent the forward edge thereof, thereby giving the hames a bearing surface which will prevent the same from coming in contact with the body of the horse when in use.

It is apparent from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings that a sectional col- Ian plate of the above construction may be secured to the hames so, that when the same removed or placed upon the horse the collar will be carried by the hames and when the same is placed upon the horse the fastening means for securing the homes-Will obviously hold the collar in place and the curved extensions formed on the lower eX tremities of the side members will prevent the lower ends of the hames or the fastening means connected thereto :t'rom contacting with the body of the horse.

Whereas I ha Ye illustrated the simple and preferred form of the present invention it is of course understood that other minor do tails of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the appended claim without departing from. the spirit of the invention.

lVhat I claim is:

A collar of the character described, comprising three sections, each of the said sections comprising laminated sheets of leather, means for adjustably connecting the sections together, the central section having extensions termed therewith and adapted to extend. over the adjacent edges of the side iuei'nbers and the upper portion of said cen tral section and means secured adjacent the forward sections of the collar for detachably securing the same to the homes substantially as described.
