PANEL-BOARD SUPPORT FOR OUTLET-BOXES.
To all 107mm, 'it may concern Be it known that l, WILLIAM F. ONnim., a resident of lllilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Panel-Board Supports for Outlet-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
rllhe object of this invention is to provide ecient means for adjustably supporting a panel board within an outlet box whereby the board may be conveniently moved or adjusted toward either of the 'four sides ot the box as may be necessary to square it with the wall opening through which access is had to the box and panel board.
Theoretically, the panel board should be centered in the box, but frequently this is impracticable because the wall opening is not. always square with the box. it often happens that 'the wall or wall iinish, behind which the outlet box is located, extends well over the box at one side and barely reaches the box at the opposite side, this condition being true of the box at its top and bottom as well as atI its vertical sides.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front or face view of an outlet box with a panel board centered therein by the adjustable supporting devices, and Fig. 2 is a similar view with the panel board adjusted toward the lefthand side of the box. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the box taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section through the corner of 'the box and panel board, taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail of a portion ot the box and one of the corner panel board supports with the several parts separated.
Referring to the drawings, the outlet box is of familiar construction, consisting of a back 2 and a rim-like inclosing wall ot which 3 and 4l are the opposite sides, and 5 and 6 the top and bottom, respectively.
7 is theslate panel board provided with rim or lining 8.
The panel board is supported within the outlet box by means of four bracket-like devicesone for each corner. Fach device consists of a flat base portion 9 adapted to bear against back 2 of the outlet box and 'ormed with circular openings 10, Formed integral with the base portion are the rightangle flanges or corner pieces 11 which are adapted to embrace the corner oi' panel board 7 and lining S, being secured thereto Specification of Letters Patent.

by screws 12. The .inner faces of flanges 11 adjacent 'their juncture are recessed at 11 to facilitate iitting the supports to the panel board, the recesses permitting the supports to be adjusted relatively to the corners of the panel board as may be necessary for securing an accurate lit.
The supporting brackets are secured to the back of the outlet box by the circular heads 18 which tit openings 10, with. lugs or anges 14 on the heads to overhang base portion 9, each head having an eccentric screw passage 15 for a screw 16 on which the head turns and which when tightened up clamps the support to the back of the box. The flanges 14 serve as handhelds for turning the heads as required for adjusting the board toward either side of the box, or upwardly or downwardly. I prefer to provide back 2 of the box with two screw apertures 17 and 18 for each corner support or bracket, the apertures for each corner being in a line extending through diagonally opposite corners of the board as l have found 'that this arrangement affords accurate and etlicient adjustment for the eccentric heads. lWhen a panel board is centered in the box, as in Fig. 1, the several screws 16 are in the innermost apertures 17. But` when the board is to be moved toward the left, as in Fig. 2, screws 16 for the upper and lower brackets at the lefthand side are moved into the outer apertures 1S, thereby permitting the board to be moved toward the lett by properly turning the several eccentric heads, this without changing its vertical position. Obviously, various adjustments oit the eccentrics may be resorted 'to for shifting the panel board either vertically or laterally as required for bringing it opposite the wall opening through which access is had to the board as above described.
I claim 1. The combination of an outlet box, a panel board, and rotatable devices operatively connected to the box and to the board and adapted when rotated to adjust the board relatively to the box.
2. The combination of an outlet box, a panel board, movable supports for securing the board to the box, and eccentric devices for adjusting the supports.
8. The combination of an outlet box, a panel board, devices secured to the board and movable relatively to the box, and eccentrics rotatably secured to the box and engaging the supports for moving and for securing the latter.
l. The combination of an outlet box, a panel board, supporting devices secured to and projecting from the corners of the board with a circular opening in each device, and circular heads Within the openings and secured eccentrically to the box.
5. The combination of an outlet box, a panel board, supporting devices secured to and projecting from the corners of the board With a circular opening in each device, a circular head Within each opening and flanged to engage the outer face of the supporting device With openings formed eccentrically through the heads, and screws securing the heads to the box With the heads rotatable on the screws.
6. rlhe combination of an outlet-box having four sets of screw openings in its backone set for each corner of the panel board, a panel board, supporting devices secured to the panel board With a circular opening in each of said devices, a head rotatable in each opening and flanged to engage the supporting device and With a screw passage formed eccentrically through each head, and a screw for each head adapted to rotatably secure the latter to the outlet box at one or another of the screu7 openings of the appropriate set of openings.
7 rThe combination of an outlet box, a panel board, corner supporting devices each having right-angle flanges for embracing a corner of the panel board, the flanges recessed adjacent their juncture for the purpose described each of said devices having an outwardly extending portion, and means securing said outwardly extending portions to the outlet box.
8. The combination of an outlet box, a panel board, supporting devices secured to and projecting from the corners of the board with a circular opening in each of said devices, and circular flanged heads rotatable Within the openings and secured eccentrically to the box with the head flanges engaging the supporting devices and holding the latter in position on the heads.
9. A sustaining device for a panel board consisting of a base, right-angle llanges projecting therefrom adapted to embrace the corner of the panel board, the base formed with a circular opening, and a circular head rotatable Within the opening and secured eccentrically to a support.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of tivo Witnesses.
