Be it known that I, ISAAC LEvIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Forms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements is garment-forms, and has for its object to provide a combined bust-portion and skirt-portion that are separably connected and adapted to be stored away or packed for shipment or other purposes in a compact form and with little manipulation or expense.

To carry out the object of my invention, I provide the bust-portion, preferably at the lower end thereo-f, with catches or clips that will engage the upper member of the skirt portion and hold the said skirt portion in position upon the bust-form for the purpose of draping, the said clips or catches being designed to engage the lower member of the skirt portion and retain the said skirt portion on the bust-portion when the members of the garment form are collapsed for the purposes of shipment or storage. lVhen the members of the garment form are collapsed, the skirt portion will surround or encompass the bust-portion. The function of the clips or catches in such instance is to hold the two members together.

In order to render the skirt portion adaptable for the above-named purpose, I preferably make the same out of resilient band and strip members, which I preferably permanently secure together.

Another object of my invention is to provide a simple means of connection of the skirt and bust portions.

I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novel features of which I will finally claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein:

Figure l is a side elevation of my improvement shown in a position for use; Fig. Q is a similar view, on an enlarged scale, illustrating the members of the form collapsed; Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary, sectional, detail View, the section being taken on a line 3 3 in Fig. 2; and Fig. i is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a portion of the bust-form and skirt-portion, illustrating another manner of supporting the skirt-portion on the bust-form.

In the accompanying drawing, a bustform is indicated by the numeral l, and the skirt-portion of the garment form by the numeral 2. In this instance, the skirt portion 2 consists of band members 3, 4L, and 5, which are connected by the vertical strip members 6. The said strip members and band members may be rigidly secured together at the points 7, 8 and 9 by any suitable means. The band members and the strip members, above-mentioned, are preferably made of thin spring metal, so that the said members will yield and conform to the lower end of the bust-form l.

To retain the skirt-form in position for use on the bust-form, I provide the lower end of the bust-form with catches or clips l0, which are secured to the said bust-form in any desirable manner, there being suiiicient space left between the tongue 11 of the clips or catches and the bust-form in order that the band members 3 or 5 may be slipped between the said tongue and lower end of the bust-form, (see Fig. 2). The clips or catches 10 are preferably made out of spring metal so that when the above-named band members of the skirt portion are slipped behind the tongue members thereof, there will be a slight pressure exerted on the band members by the tongue members of the clip.

As shown in Fig. 1, the skirt-portion is suspended from the bust-form, the catches or clips 10, in this instance, acting to support the same. hen the form is to be collapsed for shipment, the skirt portion Q, is moved upwardly, whereby the upper band member 3 is caused to leave the clips or catches l0, until the lower band member 5 reaches the said clips or catches, at which time the said lower band member is slipped in behind the said catches and is thereby held. Owing to the usual formation of the lower end of a bust-form, the said formation being more or less elliptical, the lower end of the skirt form has to be manipulated by the hand in order to cause the lower meinber thereof to engage the catches, for the reason that the normal configuration of the skirt portion is substantially circular. For the above reason the skirt portion will, when caused to encompass or envelop the bustform to reduce the length of the garment form, assume the formation shown in Fig. 2. In other words, the upper end of the form will be substantially circular, while the lower end will be caused to conform to the shape of the lower end of the bust form. For this reason it is Very essential that the skirtportion should be a `Vieldable structure. ln order that there will be ns few projecting,` members on the bust-form as possible, l preferably form the clips or catches as shown in Fig. 3, and secure the said clips or catches to the bust form on the inner surface thereof. The tongues of the clips are the only portion thereof which project beyond the outer surface of the bust form.

Fig'. et illustrates another manner by which the skirt portion 2 may be caused to hang from the bust-portion. ln this form of my invention, l make the upper band member l2 of the skirt portion 13 somewhat less in size than the lower end of the bust portion, so that when the said skirt-portion is lowered for use, the upper band l2 will bind against the lower end of the form, thus providing a stop to limit the downward movement of the skirt-portion, and whereby the said skirt-portion is prevented from slipping off. In this forni. of my invention, it is but necessary to use two of the clips lll, one on each side of the form, the said clips acting to engage the` lower member of the skirt portion when the members of the garment form are collapsed for shipment.

Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A garment form comprising a bust-form and a separable and independent skirt portion, the latter including upper and lower margin bands, and means secured to the lower portion of the bust-form to receive either of said margin bands to arrange the form in extended or collapsed condition.
