HOUSING-CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913.
Application filed March 14, 1912. Serial No. 683,894.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM JoHNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anderson, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Housing-Caps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to caps for roll housings of the type which are used in rod mills.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a novel form of cap which can readily be placed in position on housings or removed therefrom to permit of the rapid changing of the rolls.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and will be specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a detail section through the upper part of the roll housing with the cap and bolts disassembled. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the parts assembled. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the cap. Fig. 4: is a detail perspective view of the bolts which hold the cap on the housing.
In the present embodiment of the invention there is provided a housing consisting of a pair of legs 10, which are spaced to receive the rolls 11 in the usual manner. These legs 10 have on their inner upper extremities projections 12 for purposes hereinafter to be described. On these legs is fitted a cap which consists of the central portion 13 arranged to fit between the legs, side portions 14 to lie on the top of the members or extensions 12 and extremities 15, which lie on top of the body portion of the legs 10.
These extremities 15 are each provided with a notch 16 and each of the legs is in like manner provided with a T-shaped slot 17. In the slot 17 is received, in the preferred form, a T-headed bolt 18, which is provided with a nut 19 for the purpose of securing the cap firmly in position.
The cap in some instances may be provided with certain notches 22 for the reception of tie-bars as indicated at 23 in Fig. 2. These tie bars serve to connect the two housings as commonly used.
There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that changes within the scope of the appended claim may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material parts thereof. It is therefore not wished to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new is In a housing of the class described, a pair of spaced legs, said legs being provided with vertical extensions at their upper ends and on their outer sides with upwardly and inwardly inclined recesses, a cap fitted on the upper end of said legs, there being recesses in said cap to fit over said extensions on said legs, there being vertical slots in the ends of said cap above said inclined recesses, bolts in said slots and engaging in said recesses, and bolts having nuts passing through said legs and extensions into their said caps, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM JOHNSON.
