MAX RUBIN, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17,1913.
. Application filed March 14,1912'. Serial No. 683,733;
T 0 all whom it may concern Be itknown that L'Max RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of East @range, in the county of Essex and State of 5-New Jersey, have invented certain new-and useful Improvements inBuckles, of which the following is'a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful,
improvements in buckles and particularly webbing, as in suspenders andthe like, and in. which the webbing is interposed between the back of the buckle and the garments of the wearer. v
The'objectof' my invention isto provide .a new and improved buckle .of' this kind, which is simple in construction, is not ex pensive and is strong and durable-and reliable.
In the accompanying; drawingsin which like letters. of reference indicate like-parts in all the -figl l1'6SI Figure 1 is a-vertical transverse sectional view of one embodiment 'of' mynewv and improved buckle, closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view'- of the body 'plate of the same. I ig. 3 is a perspective View of the web clamping shoulder plate. 4 is a perspective View of the main locking plate. 30 I In describing my buckle I will assume that the same is in the'position which it has when used-on suspenders and by top edge of the main plate I will indicate theupper edge of the front. The front face is the .35
one which faces out-ward and the back is the face which is adjacent to-the-body of the distance from-the bottom to the top of the' ings and the holes 5 near the tops of the extensions 3.
ing plate 6 is preferably provided in its clamping edge with teeth 7 and at each end is provided atthe angle with a pivot pin 8, which pins 8 are passed. into the holes 4, so as tween the wings'2 lengthwise of the main to buckles of that kind that are used with A substantially rectangularly bent clamp-" to pivotally mountthe clamping plate 6 beplate 1 so that the toothed edge canbe swung toward and from the front of the plate 1 and can clamp the end part'of a web introduced between the front oftheplate 1 and;
the clamping plate 6 uponthe front of the extending lengthwise front of the same.
The .web locking of the plate on the plate 9 is bent rearward plate 1, at the same tinie forms a shoulder at its top to form the flange 10 from which the flange 11 extends forward at an angle toward the rear surface of the. locking plate 9. The locking platet) has end pivots '12 which are passedinto the holes 5 in the wing extensions 3 so thatthe locking" plate or lever 9 is pivotally mounted on the main plateor body plate 1 at the top of the same and extends lengthwiseof said plate. It will be observed that the rear edge of the.
flangelO, when the buckle is closed does not extend to theplane of the front of the plate 1, but adjacent thereto.
The end part 13 of the web resting on the front of the p'latel is clamped by the clamping plate 6 when. the same is folded down. The web 145 extends over the top edge of the plate 1, then downat the back or rear of plate 1 to form the cast-off loop 15 and then up over the clamping plate 6 and then upward to form the running web 16.
dYhen the locking plate orlever 9'is fold- .ed down over the front of the plate '1- the flange 11 presses on the front face of the 'bodyplate 1 and-atthe same time the free edge of the flange 11 presses the running web against the shoulder 17 formed by the I clamping plate or lever 6 and locks the samening web 16. is t-huslocked bythe locking [plate at. a point auby holding the webbebelow the top edge of the plate 1. The run tween the free edge of the flange -11 and" theshouldei' 17; at a point 6 by the pressure of the locking plate ,9 exerted'upon that v part of the runningweb resting on the top shoulder 17 and by'the pressure exerted by the rear face of theflange 11 upon that part of the running web-infront the plate'1,- I
It will be observed that the locking plate 9 or its flanges 10 or 11 do not lock the run-f ning-web by pressing it against the upper.
as indicated by a.
of the clamping plate 6 adjacentto the edge of the main body plate 1, but against the frontsurface of the same beneath the upper. edge.
Having described my "invention' what I the body plate. a locking lever pivoted at.
the front of the body plate, which locking lever 18 provided at its upper end with a rearwardly extending flange and an add1-.
tion'al flange on the free edge of said rear-- Wardly; extending flange, said additional flange extending toward the inner face of the locking lever whereby when the locking lover is swung down toward the face of the body plate the free edge of the'additional flange on the locking lever presses the fabric toward the surface of a shoulder formed by the flange of the clamping lcver substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a buckle body I plate having wings atlts'ends, which wings.
are substantially at right angles to the face of the body plate, an L-shaped clamping lever pivoted at the front of the body plate to form a shoulder extending lengthwise 0f the body plate belowthe upper edge of'the body plate, part of said l..-shaped clamping lever forming a handle llever extending tow: rd the bottom edge of the body plate, a locking lever pivoted at the front of the body plate above the pivotal connection between the clamping lever and the body plate which locking lever also extends in downward direction and is provided at its upper end with a flange extending toward the face of the body plate, a web having its end part resting against the front surface of the body plate, passed over the upper edge of the body plate then downward to form a loop, then over the clamping lever and then up beyond the upper edge of the body plate the end part of'the web resting on the outer surface of the body plate being clamped y said clamping lever; substantially as setforth.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 15th day of February, D, 1912.
