Description
ApB. HBIMBAGH. ATTAOHING DEVICE FOR RUBBER HEELS.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.18,1911.

ATTACHING DEV ICE FOR RUBBER HEELS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 10, 1913.
Application filed September 18, 1911. Serial No. 649,783.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALTON B. HEIMBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attaching Devices for Rubber Heels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in attaching devices for rubber heels and is particularly designed for the provision of a plate for attachment to the heel lift to facilitate the application of a rubber heel in such a manner that there will result an increased rigidity of connection between the heel lift and the rubber heel.
My invention aims to effect this increased rigidity of connection with a plateof such form that the cavity provided in the rubber heel for the reception thereof, may be formed by the removal of a minimum amount of material from the rubber heel. The most eflicacious way of attaining this result, has been found to be'the provision of a connection which is somewhat in the na ture of a dove-tail joint.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which of the plate and showing the plate contained therein, Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section taken on line 4-i of Fig. 3, and, Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken on line 55 of Fig. 3.
The plate utilized by me, desirably com prises a main rectangular or square port-ion 1 having nail or screw holes 2 and having a triangular flange 3 surrounding all sides thereof and formed integally thereon. The rear end of the flange 3 is rounded as at 4 to the same general contour as the rear ofthc heel.
The heel is desirably provided with a square opening, 5 substantially the size of the body portion 1 of the plate'and merging at its rear end into a transverse slot 6.
Upon the forward edge and'theside edges of this opening, the walls thereof are undercut as shown in dotted lines and are substantially triangular to receive the plate 3. The
- rear wall of the slot 6 is likewise undercut and of a contour to conform to the rear shelf and edge 4.
It will be seen that my heel is applied by first attaching the metal plate to the heel lift in the manner shown in Fig. 1 and then inserting the forward end of the plate into and through the slot 6 and passing the shelf upon the plate forwardly into the'rubber heel. Then, the rear edge of the shelf is inserted in the undercut cavity to the rear of the slot 6.
From the'above, it will be seen that I have provided a rubber heel ofa peculiar form and a plate particularly constructed for the connection thereof to the shoe heel, which serves to hold the rubber heel firmly upon the heel lift upon all sides thereof. The material cut from the rubber is comparatively small in quantity and the structure is such that there is an even retaining effect upon the rubber heel at all points thereof.
What I claim, is
The combination with a rubber heel hav ing a cavity in the. topthereof, said cavity having its side walls downwardly and outwardly inclined, and said. heel having an entrance slot leading into said cavity, of an attaching plate adapted to fit within said cavity, said plate having its side walls-downwardly and outwardly inclined to correspond with the side walls of said cavity, said plate having its rear inclined wall curved to correspondto the curvature of the rear end 0f the heel, and said plate having a relatively large centrally located aperture therethrough to reduce the weight of said plate.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
