WILHELMINA CEDERQUIST, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ADJUSTABLE ABDOMINAL BANDAG-E.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 3, 1913.
Application filed October 18, 1912. Serial No. 726,532.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, l/VILi-IELMINA CEDER- QUIST, a subject of the Czar of Russia, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Abdominal Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a bandage of this character which may be applied over a dressing, or otherwise with a maximum of comfort and convenience and minimum of trouble to the person wearing the same.
A further object is to do away with all safety pins or other projecting devices in the layer next the body of the wearer so that he will not feel any projections forced against his body by the outer layer.
Yet another object is to make an adjustable bandage which may be readily adjusted to the person of the wearer and an incidental feature of this is that the bandage may be loosened or shifted so as to allow access to the dressing without disturbing the bandage to any material extent.
A further object is to provide open spaces for air to reach the dressing and access to the same should this be required.
These and further objects are all accomplished by my invention, one embodiment of which is hereinafter set forth.
For a more particular description of my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which,
Figures 1 and 2 show different adjustments of the bandage.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
The bandage 1 consists of the parts 2- and 3 each of which is composed of ends connected by bands. The ends 4: and 5 of the part- 2 are connected by bands 6 and the ends 7 and 8 of the part 3 by bands 9. These bands 6 and 9 are so spaced and arranged that one set passes between the other and all ends and bands are sounited that the bandage is curved at its edges when developed, as shown. The ends 5 and 7 come next the person of the wearer and so may be called the inner layer and the ends a and 8 come against the outside of the ends 5 and 7 and so may be called the outer layer. If the inner layer were provided with projections for securing the same, these projections would be forced against the person of the wearer by the outer layer. For this reason the inner layer, say the end 5, is provided with as many rows of flat buttons and the end 7 with one row ,of corresponding button holes so that the ends 5 and 7 may be secured together in any of several adjustments, according to the size of the wearer. If desired, several rows of button holes may be employed and one row of buttons. In either case the bandage will lie smooth and true when in use and is secured in place by safety pins or other devices uniting the ends 4 and 8. The open part of the bandage 1 when the bands 6 and 9 pass from the inner to the outer layer is open sufficiently to permit a dressing underneath to have proper ventilation and access may ordinarily be had to the same without disturbing the bandage.
'From the foregoing it is apparent that the above mentioned advantages and others may be obtained by the structure described and that this bandage may be made in any size for any part of the body or for any sized body, as desired.
While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that it is not restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures within the scope of the annexed claim.
What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, two parts each composed of ends united by bands with the bands of one member passing between the bands of the other member between the ends of said parts, one end of each part adapted to be secured to the other in an inner layer, and the other ends of each part to be secured together in an outer layer, when the device is in use, and means without projections for holding the ends together in the inner layer, whereby each part extends around the body partly in the inner layer and partly in the outer layer.
In witness whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
