Letters Patent No. 106,283, dated Augttst 9, 1870.
IMPRQVEMENT m MILLS'I'ONE-BEARING-S;
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER PLAMONDON, of Atchison, in the county ofAtchison and in the State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Millstone-Spindle Bearings and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making apart of this specification. The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a universal and self-adjusting bearing for millstone spindles, upright shafting, and other purposes. Y r In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my Invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which-- 7 Figure l is a vertical section, and
Figure 2is a horizontal section of my invention. 7 My device consists of four nietalfollowers, A A,
key B B, bolts G C, and two covers, D E.
The followers A A have lugs, a, on'each side, and a proper clearance in bush, anda back center, I), hearing on the keys B B in a concavo-oonvex form.
, The keys B B are of a proper taper and half round, ind adjustable by means of the bolts 0 G from the These keys, healing on the'back center 71 of the followers, allow them to adjust themselves to the spindle, and form a perfect hearing at any point the spindle may he placed or trained, as may be required.
The followers having their outer bearing against the keys, the spindle G can be moved by adjusting two keys from one side of the bush to the other, and
still have a perfect hearing, which cannot be done with any followers now in use, and which isthe great advantage I claim in my universal self-adj nsting followers.
At the upper ends of the followers B B are flanges ll, which form an oil-cup around the spindle, to assist in lubricating.
The lower cover or ring D, to support the bolts 0 O and cover the oil-cup in the bush, also prevents the followers from rising while being adjustedby the keys or at work.
2. The tapering half-round keys B B, operated by means of the bolts 0 O, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The universal and self-adjusting followers A A, in combination with the keys B B, bolts 0 G, and covers D E, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of March, 1870 PETER PLAMONDON Witnesses WM. BOWMAN, SAML. BRAUND.
