UNITED STATES PATENT or? GEORGE E. COOK. 0F HEREIN, ILLINt SHADE AND CURTAKHQ' ERECKEZ,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 23, 1911.
Serial Ho. 626,529.
To alZ uilzo-m it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Coon, a
citizen of the United States, and residing at 'poles and shade rollers.
A further object of the invention tl e provision of a device of this character which is so constructed that the brackets when once adjusted, will be held in their adjusted positions against any accidental displacement.
Other objects of the invention will be ap parent from the detailed description hereinafter, when read in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof wherein a convenient embodiment of the invention is illustrated and wherein like characters of reference refer to similar parts in the several views.
In the drawings: Figure l. is a front elevation of the improved curtain and shade sup port; Fig. is a perspective view of one of the bracket supporting inbmbcrs; Figs. 3, 4t and are detailed views of one of the shade brackets; Fig. 6 is a vertical section through one of the bracket supporting members; Fig.
' 7 is a cross section through one of the bracket.
supporting members, the shade brackets being shown in elevation.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the adjustable curtain and shade support comprises two fixtures its *onnection with each window frame, said fixtures being conveniently su ported upon the up or portion of the win ow frame, adjacent t e outer ends thereof. Each of the fixtures comprises a base member A which is provided with suitable'apert-ured ears permitting its attachment to the window frame and with horizontally disposed parallel guide ways a in which guide ways is slidably mounted a bracket supporting member B. The bracket supporting member B comprises an elongated member which is conveniently provided with aperture-d ears 6- at the ends thereof for the .member to thewindo reception of tectonic "s or the like when it is desired to FQlt tach the bracket or hotsupporting member 8 upper and lower edge guide ways I), which w her is formed of sheet not al, nriently formed by fold over the upper and lower edges thereof. .1 he u'oper edge of. the front wall of the lower guide way 5' is provided with a plurality of not res or serrations 6' therein J i. the guide ways Z) are t e thereof are preferably manner.
C designat end. of WI The inner end of the where said bracketjoins the foot (7, of width to permit the bracket to be a justed in the guide weys h" of the sup'- porting member B Without contacting with the teeth or serrations if) formed in the edge of the front wall of the lower guide Way; The free end of the foot piece C is of a width to subs initially fill the space between the guide ways Z) of the bracket supporting plate B s the upper edge of thesaid foot I niently extends at right angles uter edge thereof. .ihe tower edge said foot piece is, however. inclined upwardly from the free end of the foot piece toward the end of the foot piece which wins the bracket C, as at 0, so that the portion of the foot pieceadjaccnt the bracket C is of less width than the free end thereof. With the construction thus described, as l the upperedge of the foot piece C in contact with the top wall of the up 1' guide way I) of the bracket 'sr porting member B, the bracket may be mm ed freely in the guide ways of the bracket support ing member B.
When it is desired to secure the bracket C at any desired pointof the bracket support/- ing member, it is only necessary to depress the bracketwhieh'willcausethe foot piece G to cant on the outermost lowercorner thereof until the lower inclined edge thereof is caused to contact with the bottom too wall of the lower guide way 6 of the bracket supporting member B. As the foot piece C tened to the frame movement longitudinally of its supporting member. The lower edge of the bracket C is 1 preferably sharpened as at c to facilitate its engagement with the notches or serrations 2 in the frontwall of the lowermost. guide member, and 5 way of the bracket supporting said notches are conveniently provided with an abrupt outer wall to prevent any accidental outward movement of the bracket. The weight of the shade roller will hold the bracket in engagement with the serrations of the supporting member and will prevent any accidental disengagement thereof. In addition to the foot piece C of the curtain bracket C, there is also slidably mounted in the guide ways I) of each of the bracket supporting members B, a foot piece D from one end of which extends upwardly and outwardly a curtain pole bracket .D which may be of any well known construction. The foot piece I) is substantially rectangular in shape and is of such a size that it is capable of a slight vertical play in the guide ways of the bracket supporting member B. The weight of the curtain pole on the outer end of the curtain pole support I), will serve to cantthe foot D upon the lower inner corner thereof until the upper outer corner thereof is brought into engagement with thetop wall of the top guide-way I) of the bracket supporting member B, when the weight of the pole will serve to effectually lock the foot piece in the guide ways of the bracket supporting member.
In the use of the device, the supporting members A are first secured to the framework of the Window and the bracket supporting members B, after they have been adjusted to any desired position in-the guide ways of the members A, are themselves of the window. The shade brackets and curtain supports can then be adjusted to any desired positions in the bracket ugniorting member in the manner heretolortdescribe-rt. l 3y this construction it will be ten thatv a very wide range of adjustment provided as not only are the brackets and 5 n1 ain supports adjustable in the bracket sup t bracket sn 'inort be adjusted in tl lPUllLS A.
While a com" en: embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying inlers may themsclve,
drawings, it will be obvious that many changes may be made to the form and construction therein shown without departing supporting plate B, i
I l l l l l l l 1 i I l l i l l i l I l l l l l i l l l l l l "mg members, but such from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim- 1. In a dev ce of the character described, a bracket supporting member provided with parallel guide channels along the upper and lower portions thereof, the upper edge of the provided with a plurality of notchcs therein, 3 a foot piece mounted for sliding longitudinal i'novemcnt in the guide channels of the supporting member, said foot piece being i in the form of an clongated flat plat; conlstructcd and arranged to have a limited I pivotal movement on one corner thereof in l the guide channels, a bracket projecting out l wardly from the opposite end of said plate, and having a portion adai'rted to directly 1 ei'igage the notches in the upper edge of the front wall of the lower guide channel of the bracket supporting member to normally hold the bracket against longitudinal movel mentin the guide channels. i 2. In a device of the character described, I a bracket supporting member provided with I parallel guide channels along the upper and I lowcr portions thereof, the upper edge of the front wall of the lower guide channel It being provided with a plurality of notches therein, a foot piece mounted for longitudinal sliding movement in the parallel guide channels of the bracket supporting member, said foot piece being in the form of an elongated flat plate of a width at one end to substantially till the space between the bottom walls of the guide channels of the bracket supporting member and at its other end of a width less than the distance between the bottom walls of the guide Cl121l1 nels, the lower edge of said plate being inclined upwardly from the widest end of the plate, whereby a. limited (ranting movement of the foot piece on one corner thereof in the guide channels permitted, and a bracket projecting outwardly from the narrow end of the foot piece. the lower edge of said bracket 'ocing tion adapted to directly engage the notches in the upper edge of the front wall of the lower guide channel of the bracket support.- ing member to normally hold the bracket against longitudinal movement in the guide channels, the lower inclined edge of the foot; piece engaging the bottom wall of the lower guide channel when the bracket portion is in locking engagement with one of the said nrtcnes, substantially as described.
