MUSIC-CKBINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented May 20, 1913.
Application filed May 21, 1912. Serial no. 698,824.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLAUs L. SUNn UIsT, a citizen of'the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and the State oflllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music- Cabinets, of which the following is a specifor one to door, after fication. v The object of my invention is to provide suitable means by which the door of a music cabinet, whose shelves are slidably mounted, can be opened and swun around to the full extent of its hinges, an while opening, to simultaneously pull out the shelves. The object of having the shelves pull out simultaneously to the opening of the door is well known in the art, but the degree of opening of the door is limited, that is, it can only be opened u'ntil'the shelves have reached their most extended position, thus leaving the doorst'anding aJar, and very inconvenient get around. In my device, theaving been opened and having pulled out the shelves, can be swung around and out of the way, thus leaving the shelves entirely accessible. t
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in erspective of a music cabinet,
art of 0118*S1d6 being broken away. Fig. 2 1s a fragmentary view in perspective showin the door 0 ened, and the shelf lever-bar pu led out .to its fullest extent. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in perspectiveshowing the door swung open to a greater degree.
Thevmuslc cabinet consists of a body 1, a
' door 2, and legs 3. Arranged in the cabinet are a plurality of horizontal "shelves 4, slidabl mounted in ways 5, said ways being rigidly secured to the inner sides of the cabinet, and directly opposite each other. The shelf lever-bar 6, pivoted to the inner sides of the cabinet at 7, engages in slots 8 in the shelves, said slots being spaced at an equal distance from the rear of the shelves so that when the shelf lever-bar 6 assumes a vertical position, the shelves 4. are slid back and do not interfere with the door 2. .At a-central point between the sides of the-cabinet, the rod 9 is pivoted to the shelf'lever-bar 6, the other end of the rod 9 being "pivotedto one arm of, .aibellcrank 10, said bell-crank being pivotally mounted on 'a bearing plate 11, which is rigidly secured to the bottom of the cabinet. One end of a rod 12 is pivotally connected to the other arm of the bell-crank 10, and the other end of the rod 12 is down turned and is adapted to engage in an elongated slot 13, said slot being in an angleplate 14 which is rigidly secured to the door 2 as shown. At one extremity of the slot 13 are two concave notches 15 and 16, the latter having one of its sides flared toward the elongated slot 13 as at 17.
The operation of the door and shelves is asfollows: When the door 2 is opened, the
rod 12 engages in the notch 16, and through means of said rod 12, bell-crank 10, rod 9,
and shelf lever-bar 6, the shelves at are pulled out, the lower shelves extending arther out than the upper as is clearly shown. When the maximum movement of the shelves has been reached, the rod 12 en-' gaging in the notch 16 will slide over the point 17 and into the elongated slot 13, allowing the door to be swung around. When closing the door the rod 12 will slide forward in the elongated slot 13, and en.- gage in the notch 15, whereupon further movement will cause. the shelves to be returned to their original position as is evidently seen.
What I claim as new and as Letters Patent is:
In a music-cabinet, the combination of a case, a plurality of movable shelves supported therein, means having connection with and adapted to move said shelves, 'a swinging door to said case, a bracket attaohed to the lower inside portion of said wish to secure door, the bracket formed with a longitudinal slot, the end of the slot near the free end of the door being formed with opposite transverse notches projecting beyond the sides of the longitudinal slot, and a connection having one end secured to said shelf-moving means and the other end adapted to be located in the slot in said bracket.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set
