AMOS J. STETLER, OF WEST POINT, PENNSYLVANIA.-
CUFF-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 14, 1912.
Patented May 20, 1913. Serial No. 714,99.
To all whom it may concern:
' ing to provide a cuff button which can be attached to the lining of a coat sleeve and a cuff secured thereon, so that when the wearer takes off his coat, the cuffs will remain secured to the sleeves.
A further object is to provide a button of this character made up of several parts, the sleeve lining being hooked over one partand prevented from accidentally coming off by a plate, the latter held over the hooked member by a removable head.
A further object is to provide a cuff button which can be easily attached to and detached from a coat sleeve in a short space of time, which will be cheap to manufacture and will perform the functions for which it is intended.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is an exaggerated view in side elevation showing my improvement. Fig. 2, is a view in vertical section and showing a portion of a sleeve lining and cuff. Fig. 8, is a bottom plan view. s
1 represents a base plate having an opening 2 therein through which a pin 3 pro jects. This pin 3 has a screw threaded portion 4 on one side of the plate 1, and extends through the opening 2. It is bent at right angles to the threaded portion 4 as shown at 5, and lies parallel with the under face of plate 1. This portion 5 is bent back upon itself forming a straight member 6, which extends across the bottom of plate 1, and has a hooked end 7 adapted to catch in a sleeve lining 8, and projecting into a slot 9 in plate 1. This hooked end is at an approximate right angle to member 6 so that the hooked end and the threaded portion extend in the same direction.
A head 10 is screwed onto the threaded portion 4 of pin 3, and has a reduced shank 11 to receive the cuff 12. This head 10 is beveled outwardly from its outer to its inner end, and a shoulder 13 is formed at the juncture of the head and the shank so there is no possibility of the cuff accidentally coming off.
The plate 1 is provided with'several slots 9 as seen in Fig. 3, to receive the hooked end 7 and the spokes 14: between the slots prevent the plate from revolving and wearing on the sleeve lining and the cuffs. By
bending the pin 3 so that it will project radially on both sides of the central opening as clearly seen, any possibility of the pin getting at an angle to plate 1, and the two coming apart, is overcome.
In assembling the device the hooked end 7 and part of the member 6 are caught in the lining of a coat sleeve as seen in Fig. 2. The plate 1 is then positioned over the same with the end 7 projecting into one of the slots 9 and the threaded portion 4 through the central opening ,2. Head 10 is then screwed on the threaded portion 4 and will press the plate 1 down on member 6 and the portion 5, clamping the lining between the plate and member 6. The cuff is then secured over the head 10 onto shank 11 and in this manner is securely buttoned to the coat sleeve, so that the cuffs are removed whenever the coat is taken 01f.
Various slight changes mightbe made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scopeof the appended claim.
Havingthus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure Letters Patent is A device of the character described, comprising a base plate having a central opening therein, a pin having a threaded end and projecting through the opening in the plate, said pin then bent at right angles and extending radially across the bottom of the plate, said pin then bent upon itself and extending diametrically across the bottom of the plate forming a clamping head, a hook on the end of the pin adapted to be projected through a support, said plate having a series of slots therein, in any one of In testimony whereof I have signed my which the hooked end may project, and a name to this specification in the presence of head screwed on the threaded portion of two subscribing Witnesses.
the pin, securing the parts together and A,MOS J. STETLER. clamping the support between the clamping Witnesses:
head and the base plate, substantially as de- R. H. KRENKEL,
scribed. CHAS. E. Po'r'rs.
