mpRovEMENTJN AnroMA'rvIcALLY-OPE'RATED WATER-enden SEATS.
` The Schedule referreito in these Letters Patent andlinaklng ofthe lame To' alll uilrom 'may concern.
Beit knownLthat I, PERRY W.,DA'V1S`, of P ortlnnd,in the eountT of Mnltnomah,`in the State of Oregon, have invented a' neun and, improved Anto matic'Water-Closet; and I do hereby declare that the following is'afull and exact description of the sume, referenceheing had to the accompanying drawing and tothe letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 ofthe drawing is a vperspectiveView, and Figure 2, a section through the centre of the outer and inner-cylinders G and D.
"1 he'inventvion is' intended-to aetfsoinewhat as stench-trap, and also to form an easv seatfor the venlts of illy closets:
It'- conssts of' the parts` from A toJ, inclusive and in 'cdmhinatioin f is` the seat, secured to the Bange E' oi' the double- :iliedcyllnder D, (the inner one.) u 15 is a piece of wood, similarly attached .tothe-flange E on the doublewalled cylinder G'.
Around the inner part of G, in the space' between the iun'einnd outer wall,'ahelica`l spring, H, is placed, ntinst which a flange, F, on the outer wall of 4the inner cylinder D, presses.
Inside the .cylinder D., a rod, I, connects with the tln'p J The u )per and lowerends of I are formed into e es Y y 1 one of which takes motionfrom D and communicates it to J.
The operation is as follows: v
The weight of' the person sittingon the seat A, which isiiisteued to the inner cylinder D, communicates motion to the trap J, through the rod I; and, i when the weight is fully on, the trap J is open, hang'- ing vertical on its hinge, entirely clear of the descend,
ing ordure; and, when' the 4Weight is removed, the seat A rises into its originel position, through'the upward pressure oi' the spring ljI, and thereby, through the eonneoting-rod- I,- eloses thetrapJ almost aitight, so preventing any filme-from rising from the vault.- It will'be observed that a slight ,annular 'groove is turned onthelower .part of the' projecting rim of the trap J, and is intended to secure the above end by a kind o fwedging iit against the oonnterpartgaboveit.'
The improvement consists in the -easy springy-rno-- tion of the seat, and the manner by whieh the vrhoie is operated by the 'Weightof th'e bodywhen .'ap'plied to dryclcsets, the whole being `inteudedior such apart.- mentS, within a'lmildingv or otherwise, where a con# ductorfmay'or may not lead to a vault, as-the saine maybe-attached to thegloor 'orseat of' acommo vault.
This operation is thonght Ito be novel, also, that is,
vwiien -m'ade as described.
The two cylinders, D and G, are particularly'repre'l sented in the section, tig. 2, and itwill be seen that theonter. part of D presses'against' the spring 1FL/as described', between the walls et G, and thevinne;` part of D projects below the lowerpartof the inside' -of G, discharging everything clear of G, securingt-he clean- Aliness of the whole.
0 latin," What I claimfis- I The' combination ofthe parts from A to'J, inclu-.
sive, and the particularl arrangement -of the' double ,cylinders D and'A'G, as described, when used for the purpose set forth.
