Description
G. G. LYNCH. TITLE CARD HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED OCT. 6, 1911'.
11,060,990. Patented ma 6,1913.
FFIQE,
CHARLES C. LYNCH, OF WANETTE, OKLAHOMA.
TITLE-CARI) HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 6, 1913.
Application filed October 6, 1911. Serial No. 653,110.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CrrAnLns C. LYNCH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vanette, in the'county of Pot tawatomie and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Title-Card. Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tags and, more especially, to that form of tag intended for fastening to the back of record books or the like to indicate their contents.
The objects of my invention are to provide a cheap and efficient means of fastening a card or strip of paper, upon which the desired information is written or printed, to such book or other object in such a manner that said card will be firmly held in place without likelihood of becoming loosened or torn off. a
A simple and practical embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters of reference are used to designate corresponding parts.
Referring to said drawings :-Figure 1 is a plan view of my device showing the same attached to the back of a book with a card in place therein. Fig. 2 is a like plan view with the card removed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line AA of Fig. 2. Fig.
4 is a plan view of the blank before being formed.
Referring to said drawings by numerals, a body portion 1, of any suitable material but preferably of thin metal, terminates at one end in a narrow elongated strap or shank 2 provided at its end with a pointed tip 3. A notch or recess 4 is provided in the opposite end of said body portion 1 for the reception of the strap 2 when the same is bent around said body portion. Flaps 5, integral with said body portion 1 and immediately adjacent strap 2 where the same joins the body portion, are adapted to be turned back upon said body portion. The longitudinal edges 6 of said body portion 1 overlap said body portion to form channels for the reception of the edges of the card 7. The flaps 5 underlying the edges 6 press against the same and, while allowing the card to slip in, grip the same to prevent its slipping out or, the card may be cut a little short and the corners slipped under the flaps 5. The end 3 while serving to hold the body portion in place likewise acts as a clamp for the end of the card.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that this invention provides a simple holder that can be readily punched or stamped from a sheet of suitable material by a simple operation of a punching or stamping machine, and that a card or tag can be readily slipped into the holder, the straps 5 at one end of the holder limiting movement of the card or tag in one direction and the pointed end of the shank 2, when the holder is in operative position, preventing movement of the card or tag in an opposite direction. It will also be clear that'the end notch 4 of body 1 forms a seat for the portion of shank 2 that is bent over said body, so that said bent portion lies flush with the end of the body, and that the point 3 lies within the channel formed by the. side flanges 6, thereby preventing any edges of the bent over portion of the shank 2 being exposed.
In practice my invention is operated as follows :Suitable slits having been made in the back of the book or other object to which the tag is to be attached, the shank 2 is passed through said slits, the body portion is then bent back against the slit object and the point 3 bent down in place, when the desired card may be inserted. To remove the card or tag, the point 3 is straightened, which releases the card or tag, whereupon thesaid card or tag can be readily slipped from the holder.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A card holder comprising a flat body portio-n having its longitudinal edges provided with card engaging grooves said body having opposite corners of one end provided with flaps that are inturned and disposed within the grooves to form card stops, the opposite end of the body being cut-away between the grooves to provide a shank seat, said body having an elongated shank projecting from between the stops, the shank i In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my being aldapted to be bent around the back of signature in presence of two Witnesses.
the bo cy With its end aortion lyin in the T seat flush with the end hf the b0dy, the free I CHARLES LYL end of the shank being pointed and adapted Vitnesses: to overlap the body and lie between the C. N. CUsTEAD, grooves and flush With the top Walls thereof. ARTHUR PETRIE.
