MEANS FOR MAKING CIGAR-FILLERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 6, 1913.
Application filed November 22, 1912. Serial No. 732,978.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH ZAHN, a German subject, residing at IIanau-on-the- Main, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Means for Making Cigar-Fillers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for making cigar-fillers and has for its object to enable all the fillers contained in a mold to be turned over in the excavations of the mold simultaneously. To such end, as is wellknown in itself, pins are arranged to be in troduced into the fillers crosswise thereof and be moved so as to turn the fillers.
The invention consists, broadly, in means for introducing all the pins at the same time into the respective fillers and in an inclined position, then rocking all the pins simultaneously so as to turn all the fillers, and finally extracting the pins from the turned fillers.
The invention will be understood from the following description and be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section of the improved device, while Fig. 2 represents a crosssection thereof.
The mold a, which in a well-known manner is adjustable in its length and receives the fillers Z), is applied, as shown in the drawing, to the device forming the subject of this invention and which is constructed as follows: In a frame (Z, in which abottom c is resiliently mounted, a bar 6 is movably disposed which carries the pins 9 articulated to the bar at f. This bar is guided so as to be able to be moved along the frame 62 while being lowered and raised. For this purpose the frame (Z is formed with at its ends with slotted guide pieces h engaging each a stud 2' which projects from the bar 6. For moving the bar 6 a hand lever 70, mounted in the frame (Z at y', is attached to the bar e by means of a link m connected with the bar at n. Below the bar 6 a guide bar 0 for the pins 9 is displaceably arranged on the frame 6!. This bar 0 is connected with the lever is by a link 39 so as to share in the movements imparted to the bar 6.
The device acts as follows: In the drawing, Fig. 1, the bar 6 is supposed to have performed, actuated by means of the lever 72, a longitudinal movement such as indicated bythe distance x, this position being shown in full lines, while the original position of the lever 70 is marked by a dotted line. Owing to this movement the pins 9 have been introduced into the fillers b by the pins 2' of the bar 6 sliding in downwardly inclined portions of the slots of the guide pieces h, as will be seen from Fig. l. The movement of the lever 72 being continued in the direction of the arrow, the bar 6 is displaced along the mold a by the distance 31 indicated in Fig. 1, the corresponding portions of the slots of the guide pieces h being curved so that the bar 6 is to some extent raised and then lowered again. In this way the pins 9 are brought into a position symmetrically opposite to the one shown in full lines and the fillers 5 turned over as desired. By further rotating the lever 70 in the direction of the arrow the bar 6 is raised, owing to upwardly extending portions of the slots of the guide pieces h, the longitudinal travel of the bar 6 being indicated by the distance a. Hereby the pins 9 are extracted from the fillers, as shown in dotted lines. It will thus be seen that by one continuous manipulation of the lever 76 the pins 9 are inserted into the fillers, turned over with them, and extracted therefrom.
hat I claim is:
1. In a device for molds for making cigarfillers, in combination, a bar movable along the mold, pins, articulated to this bar and adapted to project into the excavations of the said mold, and means for displacing the said bar longitudinally of the mold while lowering and raising the bar, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device for molds for making cigarfillers, in combination, a bar movable along the mold, pins articulated to this bar and adapted to project into the excavations of the said mold, means for displacing the said my name this fifth (lay of November 1912, bar longitudinally of the mold While lowerin the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
ing and raising the bar, and means for FRIEDRICH ZAHN. guiding this bar, substantially as and for \Vitnesses: 5 the purpose set forth. JEAN GRUND, In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed CARL GRUND.
