Specification of Letters Patent.
Pal-en ted Apr. kill,
Application filed April G, 1910. Serial No. 553,827.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUlSEDWARD Pir- TONI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at New York city, borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new-and useful Improvements in Wire-Mattress Fabric, of which the following specification and accompanying" drawin illustrate the invention in a form which now regard as the best out of the.
various forms in which it may be embodied.
My invention relates to a metallic spring; mattress fabric and comprises a series of arallel, sectional wires connected across at. mtervals by short links which ,have at each end a closed non-elastic eye, the eyes of each link being engaged by hooks or loops formed on the ends of the several sections of the aforesaidparallel wires. 'This forms'an extremely cheap and simple form of mattress fabric in Wl'llCll all of the contacting points are held together under tension and the fabric is therefore noiseless.
' The figure is' a perspective View of 'a porj bars of a mattress frame and A nected at tion as a mattress constructed in accordance with my invention. I
In the drawing A A are the two end one of the side-bars. At'intervals along ear-h end-bar are attached coiled springs S, El, etc., and each opposite pair of springs is connected by a line of links 1, 2, 3, 4, forming sections of a longitudinal wire extending from end to end of the frame and parallel to similar'wires, arranged at intervals corresponding to the intervals between adjacent pairs of springs S, S along the end-bars. These parallel, sectional wires are cross conalternate intervals by cross-links 5, 5, etc. Each cross link is formed with an eye at each end formed by bending the wire into an elongated loop at right angles to the shank of the link and bending the end of the wire around the shank or straight portion of the link. This forms a closed,
inelastic eye on each end of each link 5, the intermediate portion of the linkbetween the two eyes being straight, while the sections 1, 2, 3, 4, etc, are provided at each end with a hook or loop engaging one of the, aforesaid eyes on the cross-links. This forms a fabric having a series of parallel lines of links at intervals cross connected at alternate intervals. The elasticity resides in the springs S, S, only, while all points of con tact between longitudinal and transverse links are under tension and there are no loose or,lightly contacting parts to scrape or rattle when the fabric is in use. i Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A mattress fabric comprising a plu ,rality of rows of longitudinal links formed of wire and each being provided with end hooks, and transversely extending connecting links formed of wire and each having their ends shaped to. form elongated closed eyes that are arranged at right angles to the links, each eye being adapted to be engaged by two books of the longitudinal 5th day of April, 1910.
