JULIUS HAMACHECK. OF TWO RIVERS, WISCONSIN. ASSIGNOR TO THE HAMILTON MANUFACTURING COMPANY. OF TWO RIVERS. WISCONSIN. A CORPORATION OF WISCONSIN.
FURNITURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
atented Apr. 2!). 1913.
'1 ul/ whom it may com-era Be it.known that I. Jenms I-lxnxeutzeli. a citizen of the United States. and a resi' dent of Two Rivers. in the county of Manitowoe and State of \Visconsin. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furniture. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to furniture. and
relates particularly to extension runs for supporting and guiding slides. trays. and
the like. used in connection with furniture of various kinds. such as desks and cabinets.
The object of the invention is to provide an extension run which shall be simple in construction. strong. durable and effective for its designed purpose. To this end. a slide run of my invention etnnprises the various features and details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing. in which my invention is fully illnstrated.-Fignre l is a horizontal sectional view of a case or cabinet. showing. in top plan view. a tray or slide mounted therein by means of my improved extension runs. Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view thereof on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, showing the tray or slide extended; and Fig. -'l is a view similar to Fig. 3. showing the tray or slide pushed in.
Referring now to the drawings. A designates a case or cabinet. and P) a tray or slide mounted therein by means of extension runs of my invention.
My improved extension runs are formed by channels 1 and 2. of which the channels 1 are secured in fixed position to the sides of the case or cabinet A. and the channels 2 are slidaloly titted to the grooves formed by the channels 1. Downwardly depending flanges 3 are preferably formed at the outer edge of the upper sides of the channels 1. said flanges being sufliciently long to extend downwardly beyond the upper edges of the slidable channels 2 so as to retain said channels 2 in engagement with the grooves in said channels 1. I
Disengagenient of the channels 2 from the grooves in the channels 1 is prevented and withdrawal of said channels 2 limited by means of suitable stops on said channels. consisting. as shown. of shoulders t formed on the channels 1 by struck down portions I of the upper flange of said channels 1, and
by the turned up inner ends 5 of the top flanges of the channels 2. the relation being such that. as said channels 2 are withdrawn. the turned up ends 5 thereof will strike the shoulders 4 on the fixed channels 1. If desired. stops may also be provided for limiting the inward movement of the slidable channels In the construction shown. this is effected by closing the inner ends of the fixed channels 1.
The lateral edges of the slide or tray B are adapted to slidably engage the grooves in the channels 2. and movement of said tray or slide relatively to said channels is limited by suitable stops on said tray or slide and on said channels. consisting. as shown. of shoulders (3 formed by struck down portions of the top flanges of the channels 1. and by the forward ends of leaf springs T secured at their rear ends adjacent to the rear ends of the lateral edges of the tray or slide B. the free ends of said leaf springs extending forwardly and being bent upwardly, so that when said tray or slide is withdrawn the free ends of said leaf springs will strike said shoulders 6. The resilience of the leaf springs T will permit them to be. inserted into the grooves of the channels 2 past the stop shoulders 6 and to then snap up into position to engage said stops 7. Also. to insure retraction of the slidable channels 2 when the tray or slide is pushed in. spring stops 8 are provided at the front end of said t'ay or slide. which are adapted to engage struck down shoulders 1) on the upper flange of the slidable channels 2. said spring stops 8 and shoulders 9 being substantially identical in construction with the spring stops 7 and shoulders (3. respectively. but disposed in opposite relation thereto.
While I prefer the forms of stops and the relative positions and arrangement thereof shown. my invention obviously admits of a wide range of variation as regards the same. and I do not therefore desire to limit myself to the spetitic'construetion and arrangement shown.
I claim A slidable member and extension runs therefor. said extension runs comprising fixed channels. other channels slidahly titted to said fixed channels. the grooves in said slid-able channels being constructed and arranged to slidably receive corresponding parts of said slidable member, stops on said 1 adapted for engagement by the ends of said fixed and slidable channels which limit the 1 leaf springs, respectively, substantially as Withdrawal of said slidable channels, leaf described.
springs secured to the front and rear ends, In testimony, that I claim the foregoing respectively, of said slidable member, the as my invention, I afiix my signature in free ends of said leaf springs at the front presence of two subscribing Witnesses, this end of said slilrllable merlnber extending rear- 3d day of July, A.
