ATTACHMENT FOR MILLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 29,1913.
- Application filed May 1,1912. SerialNo. 694,481. 1
pertains to make and use the same.
- This invention relates to improvements in attachments for mills and more particularly to means for supporting an electric motoron themill and in operative relation to the fly,
, wheel thereof-the object of the invention being to provide simple and efficient means whereby an electric motor can be attached directly to the structure of an ordinary hand power mill and be so supportedthat it can be adjusted to position to cooperate with the fly wheel of the mill and thus supply power to operate the lattermy improvements'being particularly intended for application to coffee mills, such as employed in retail stores. WVith this object in view v the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims. Y
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a coffee mill showing the application of my improvements thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the motor supporting devices. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same. 1 represents a coffee mill provided with the usual fly wheel 2 on the shaft of the grinding mechanism and the mill is also provided with a hopper 3 connected with the body portion 4 of the mill by neck por-.
tion 5, all of which is the ordinary and com mon construction of coffee mills nowin use.
My improved motor supporting means are secured to the neck portion 5 of the mill, as shown in Fig. 1. These supporting devices will now be described in detail.
' 6 represents a clamp comprising two parts 7-8 to embrace the neck portion 5 of the mill, to which latter-said portions of the clamp are secured by means of bolts or screws 8*. The portion 8 of the clamp is provided with a flat arm or platform 10 havinga hole 11' and a curved slot 12 concentric with said hole. A bar 12 is disposed. upon the arm or platform 10 and provided with an arm or extension 13 which projects upwardly therefrom at an obtuse angle.
The bar 12 is provided with a plurality of holes 14- and also with a plurality of holes 15. holes 14 and through the hole/11 in the arm or platform 10 and thus pivotally connects the bar-v 12 with said arm or platform. A
bolt 17 passes through one or the other of the holes 15 in the bar 12 and through the 55 elongated slot 12 inthe arm or platform '10. By thus connecting the bar 12 with the arm or platform 10, said bar can be adjusted by turning it on the bolt 16 and it can also be adjusted outwardly by passing the bolt 16 through one or the other of the holes 14: in said bar 12. The depending inclined arm 18".
of a horizontal bar 19 liesparallel with the inclinedarm 13 of the bar 12 and is provided with an elongated'slot 20 for the passage of bolts 21 which latter also pass through holes 22 in the arm 13. The arms 13 and 20 are thus adjustably secured to gether in a manner to permit vertical ad just-ment. of the horizontal .bar 19. The bar so 19 constitutes a. support for a platform 23 which is secured to said bar 19 by means of a suitable bolt passing through a hole 24: in said bar 19. The platform 23 supports an electric motor 25 which is secured thereto by means of suitable bolts located at the corners of the base of said motor and passing through suitable holesnear the corners of said platform. The armature shaft of the motor is provided with a friction wheel 26 to engage the peripheral portion of the fly-wheel 2 of the mill. -Suitable-electric connections will be provided for the motor and if desired a switch may be located on the clamp 6 or the motor may be connected by means ofa flexible conductor and a socket piece-to the lamp socket connected in circuit from any suitable source of'electric supply. i
It will be seen that. by reason of the various adjustments .of which my improved support ng devices are capable, an electric motor can be secured directly to any coifee mill of ordinary construction and the motor can be easily and quickly adjusted so that A motor and coffee mill. are referred to and illustrated, merely for the purpose of explaining the purposeand function of my A bolt 16 is passed through one of the 60 improved attachment, which is adapted for use with any type orconstruction of -motor and any ordinary type and eonstruction 'of grinding mill.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters-Patent, is
1. The combination with a two part clamp provided with a laterally prO ecting arm, of a bar supported by said arm and provided with an upward extension, means for securing said barjat any desired axial adjustment with reference to its supporting arm, a bar provided with a downward extensiommeans -f o'r securin said extension to the upward extensiono the lower bar, and a platform secured to the uppermost bar, substantially n as set forth.
2."The combination with a clamp pro-' vided with an arm having a hole and a curved slot, of a bar disposed on said arm;
a bolt assing through said barand the hole in sai arm, a bolt passing through said bar and the curved slot in said arm, an upper bar, arms on said bars and lying in parallel planes, means adjustably securing said arms together, and a motor support or platform mounted upon said upper bar.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in" the presence of two subscribing w tnesses.
