REST ATTACHMENT FOR BARBER-CHAIRS.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented New. 25', raie.

Application led March 21, 1919. Serial No'. 284,024.

To all whom t may concern.'

Be it known thatI, DEXTER W. Einw, citivzen of the United States, residing at' Centerville, in the county of Appanoose and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rest Attachments for Barber-Chairs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a rest attachment for barber chairs, and the object of invention is the construction of a simple and eflicient rest or seat device that is preferably attached to the post ofl a barber chair, whereby the barber can be seated conveniently while at work.

With this and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described and particularly pointed-` out in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings:

Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a device or apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention, while Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1, showing also thel attachment, by dotted lines, adjusted alongside of the barber chair proper.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on lines 3 3 Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, l designates the post of an ordinary barber chair, to which is attached my improved rest device.

My device comprises a vertical standard 2, having a horizontal base portion 3, to the outer ends of which base portion are suitably secured rubber-covered casters 4.

A T-shaped coupler 5 is secured to the standard or upright 2 near its top, and suitably attached to the upper end of standard 2 is a seat 6. A horizontal primary arm 7 has one end suitably fastened in the coupler 5, and its other end extends into the socket portion 8 of the primary cap 9; rivets or pins 10 extend through the socket portion 8 and primary arm 7 xedly securing the arm 7 to the cap 9. An auxiliary standard 11 is'secured, at its upper end, in the cap 9 and the lower end o'f the auxiliary hollow standard 11 is positioned in the auxiliary cap 12, whichauxiliary cap is provided with a socket portion 8a. The inner end of the auxiliary arm 13 is seated in the socket portion 8, and by means of pins or rivets 10 this arm 13, like arm 7, is securely fastened to the auxiliary or hollow cap 12.

A suitable clamp 14 is fixedly attached t0 the outer end of the auxiliary arm 13, whereby my device is detachably secured to the post 1 of the chair; the clamp 14 is somewhat loose on the post l so as to allow free movement of my device around the chair, yet retaining said device fastened to the chair by reason of the clamp 14 loosely surrounding the post 1. Engaging the ends of the hollow auxiliary standard 1l are flexible washers 15 whereby a tight adjustment is possibi-e with reference to the connection `of the arms 7 and 13 to the standard'll, and at the same time not permitting any squeaking or rubbing noise to result when the barber is using the device and moving the same around the chair. A bolt 16 extends through the caps 9 and 12 and through the washers 15 and by means of a nut 17 the bolt is securely 'fastened in its assembled position, Figs. l and 3.

The washers or llers 15 can be readily replaced when worn, or if a greater number 1s desired they can be added without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention.

By reason of vthis combination, a very ef- Vicient rest device is provided for barbers,

and one which can be manufactured at a reasonable cost, and which will be a boon to the trade, permitting al tired barber to rest when at around the chair, as indicated by the full and dotted line positions (two positions shown) per Fig. 2.

What I claim is:

In a device of the class described', the combination with a post of a barbers chair, a primary standard provided with a seat, a coupler secured to the standard, of a vertical primary cap provided with a horizontal socket portion, a primary arm having one end in the socket portion of said cap and its other end in said coupler, a vertical auxiliary cap provided with a horizontal socket portion,A a. vertical, hollow, auxiliary standwork and move to any position I caps, iiexible Washers interposed between vthe ends of said auxiliary standard :md said caps and positioned Within the ceps, a bolt extending through said caps, Washers, and said auxiliary standard and detnchably connecting said elements together, a, clamp on the post of said chair, and an auxiliary :L1-1n secured at one end to seid clamp and having its other end secured in' said horizon- 10 tnl'socket portion of the auxiliary ca In testimony whereof I hereunto a x my signature.
