JOSEPH M. REGAN, or Los ANGELES, AND ARTHUR PLANTE, or SANTA MONICA,
' v oamronnm,
DEVICE 'ron ELEVATING PUMP-RODS OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent:
Patented s. as, rare.
Application filed August 23, 1912. Serial No. 716,783.
Tooll whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH M. REGAN and ARTHUR PLANTE, both citizens of the United States of America, residing, respectively, at Los Angeles and Santa Monica, both in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a certain new and.
useful Device for Elevating Pump-Rods or the Like and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip-;
proved construction, arrangement and com-- bination of parts 'in the device as will be apparent from the description and claims simple'in construction, strong and durable,
cheaply manufactured, adapted" to be easily and quickly applied to or detached from the rods, and is convenient to use and effective in action.
Other objects and the advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled inthe art from a consideration of the fol- The partlO is formed with' an opening '11 therethrough. .As shown, the wall of the opening 11 may be straight on one side 12 and it may diverge downwardly on the opposite'side 13. At the upper part the opening 11 may beof "increased size to'p'rovide a shoulder 14 and a socket 15, 'for'the' enlarged upper end part 16 of a' sectionof pumprod 16 indicated in Fig. 3. I
In order that the section of pump rod 16 -may be easily and quickly passed into the opening 11 through the part-10 and automatically held in position therein, a slot or passageway 17 may be provided which extends from the exterior of thep'art 10 to the opening 11 in such manner that a lip 01'- shoulder 18 is provided to hold the rod 16 in place when said rod has been moved through the passageway 17 and into the opening 11. The 'passageway17 may be formed slanting downwardly and preferably has the wall 19 thereof,.which is adjacent to the wall 12, disposed to one side of the wall 12 to form'th'e lip -or shoulder 18 as shown. At the outer edges 20 of the as sageway 17 the part 10 may be bevele or chamfered for convenience in passing th rod 16-into the passageway 17 Any suitable or approved form hoisting apparatus, not shown, may be operatively connected with the part 10, and such end portion. thereof pivotally mounted on pins 22 which may be provided on opposite sides-of the part 10. 4
From the foregoing description it will be apparatus may be connected to the part 10 by means of the bail 21 whichmay have the readily understood by those skilled iift the art that the part 10 may. be easily and quickly applied to or detached from the pump rod 16 by holding the part 10 at an angle to. the pump rod and then moving the part 10 to passcthe pump rod through the passageway" 17. In applying the part 10 to the pump rod, it will 'beseen'tliat after the part 10 hasbeen moved to-pas's the pump rod 16 through thepassageway 17 the part f 10 may be causedto assume an upright position to have the pump rod16disposed in the opening ll and back of thelip' or shoulder 18... When pump rod-1'6 is disposed in the ment of the part 10 is continued.
fWhile one form of device embodying the invention hasybeen illustrated and described,
many changesandi modifications thereof will readily occur to those skilled in'the art and opening 11 and the-"part; 10 is in upright the right istherefore reserved to all suchchanges and modifications as do'notdepart.
from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended cla1ms. I
we claim:
'1-. In a device of the class specified, a part formed with an opening therethrough, said opening being of increased size at one end and the wall thereof diverging at one side of the opening, and with a passageway extending from the exterior of the part to said opening to provide a shoulder for thepur pose set forth.
2. A'device of the. class specified, compris-' ing a part formed with an opening therethrough, said opening being of increased size at one end and the wall thereof diverging at one side of the opening, and with a passageway extending "from the exterior. of the part to said opening to provide a shou1- der for the urpose set forth, pins on said part, and a b pins.
3. In a device of the class specified, a part formed with an opening therethrough, said opening being of increased size at one end and the Wall thereof diverging downwardly at one side of the opening, and with a slanting passageway. extending from the exterior ail pivotally mounted on said of the part to said opening to provide a shoulder for the purpose set forth.
4. In a device of the class specified, a part formed with an opening therethrough, said opening being of increased size at one end said pins.
' In testimony whereof, we have signed our names to this specification in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses at Los Angeles, county of'Los Angeles, State of California, this 16th day of August A. D. 1912.
JOSEPH -M.- REGAN." ARTHUR PLANTE. 1
