Letters Patent No. 106,018, dated August 2, 1870.
Moon- IMPROVEMENT IN A'CCORDEONS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent andmaking part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL FRIEDRICH ZIMMERA MANN, of the city and county ofPhiladelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Accordcons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to thc lett-ers of reference markcd there,-

My invention consists in adding to the finger-board supplemental keys, which produce different notes in drawing and pressing, that is, each key produces two different notes,vone in drawing and another in pressmg.
On reference to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification- Figure l is a front elevation;
Figure 2 shows the scale for the old style accordeon;
Figure 3 shows the scale produced by the first two supplemental keys; and
Figure 4 shows the scale produced by the second two supplemental keys.
As before stated, this invention consists in adding to the finger-board of au accordeon supplemental keys, which produce different notes in drawing and pressing, as shown in the accompanying drawing, fig. l.
ln the first octave, A and B are the supplemental keys, and C and D the supplemental keys in the second octave.
The scale, fig.V 2, is produced bythe old-style accordeon, making the C scale; the scale, fig. 3, is produced by the supplemental key Ain the rst octave andthe supplemental key C in the second octave, making the F scale; and the scale, iig. 4, is produced by the supplemental keyB in the iirst octave and the supplemental key D in the second octave, making the G scale. Therefore, my improved accordeon produces the different scales, as follows: the first is C, in the old style; the supplemental keys A and C produce the second or I" scale, and the supplemental keys B and D produce the third or G scale, and so on, according as the accordeon is tuned.
If another row of octaves were added tothe accordeon, it would require another row of supplemental keys to produce the other three scales.
W'hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An accordeon having the supplemental keys A B C D, each having two different notes, one in drawing and one iu pressing, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
