JAR-HOLDER.
5 State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful J ar-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertalns to make and use the same. p
This invention relates to a new and useful jar holder adapted for holding preserving jars and \the like while being filled and 115 I I sealed.
As one of the objects of the invention, it is the aim, to provide a holder comprising upper andv lower annular members, one to surround the. upper portion .of the jar, while the other receives the base of the jar, and which are connected and braced by the vertical stays as shown, which terminate in angular members or hooks, which not only engage under, a shoulder at the top of the jar, 'but are also adapted to hook over the edge of a vessel, to steady the Jar and the holder while thear is being filled, as shown 'inFigurel. -f f The invention comprises further features and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :--Fig.\1 is a view in perspective of a preserving jar, showlng the same supported by the improved holder, Fig. 2 is a detail View of the holder detached from the jar, andillustrating a member, device or ladle for packing the preserves or fruit in the jar. Fig. 3 is a view showing a slightly modified'form" of holder. Fig. 4. is a sectional viewon line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the ,drawings 1 designates a preserving or fruit jar of the usual construction having a shoulder atits upper portion, which is denoted by the numeral 2, .while 3 designates the jar Y holder, which in Figs. 1 and 2 comprise the upper and lower members 4 and 5. These members 4 and 5 are annular in contour to fit the jar, and areconnected and braced by der 2 of the jar for. supporting the same,
but are adapted to engage a vessel 8, as

shown in Fig. 1, for steadying the jar and the holder therefor while the jar is being filled. Also connecting the members 4 and 5 is a handle 9 and brace 10. The handle 9 is made integral with the annular membor 4. In Figs. 1 and 2 the annular member 5 is bottomless, but is provided with an inwardly extending flange 11 upon which the jar seats, and an outwardly extending flange 12 trough-shaped in cross section, designed for the purpose of receiving the overflow or spilt fruit or preserves. The lower annular member 5 is constructed of a single piece of metal, bent to form a verticalflange 1'2 intermediate the inwardly and outwardly extending flanges, against which intermediate flange the lower side portions of a jar engage. In Fig. 3, however, the annular member 5 is constructed with a counter-sunken bottom 13. The holder may be constructed of any suitable size, for instance, of a size to either fit a half-gallon jar, a quart jar or pint jar. However in manufacturing this holder to fit either a quart or pint jar, the same should be provided with a counter-sunken bottom, as shown in Fig. 3. In Fig. 2 the angular members or books 7 are dispensed with, and in lieu thereof the braces 6 terminate in eyes 14, in which hooks may be connected, for suspending the holder. The upper annular member is provided with an integral strap 15, forming a holder, for the spoon or ladle 16, which may be used for pressing the fruit or preserves compactly in the jar.
- In the drawings there are disclosed certain features, but in practical fields these one another, and terminating in members adapted to engage under a shoulder on the jar, the lower annular member having an inwardly extending flange against which the jar seats, and constructed with an outing the lower member, and a ladle holder' wardly extending annular flange troughforming an integral part of the upper annushaped in-cross section adapted to catch the lar member. overflow of the fruit or preserves, the lower In testimony whereof I have signed my 5 annular member bein constructed of a sinname to this specification in the presence of 1-5 gle pieceof metal an bent to formavertical two subscribing witnesses. fla e intermediate the inwardly and out- ROSE A.
