This invention relates to an attachment adapted to be applied to the usual form of paper holding machine, having a cutting bar attached thereto, and the object of the invention is to cause an end portion of the paper to curl outwardly, thereby enabling a corner of the paper to be readily grasped when an additional supply is to be drawn from the roll.

The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

In these drawings l represents the paper holding stand, 2 the cutter bar and 3 the roll of paper. My attachment consists of a bar l rigidly secured upon the outer face of an end portion of the cutter bar 2 and projecting beyond the end of said bar. The projecting portion is bent `at a right angle to said bar and is then bent back again upon itself, thus forming an open rectangular loop 5. A second bar 6 has an angled end port-ion 7 which extends within the loop 5 and is loosely connected thereto by means of a suitable bolt 8. The bar 6 is adapted to extend beneath the outer layer or sheet of the roll of paper, and "runs parallel to the inner face of the cutter bar. A transversely curved spring 9 is arranged -at right angles to the inner end portion of the bar 6 and is riveted thereto, said spring having a curvature substantially that of the roll of paper. Adjacent said spring the bar 6 carries a laterally extending outwardly angled lug 10. The paper when drawn from the roll passes over the bar 6 and spring 9 and over the lug l0, and beneath the cutter bar 2 which carries the bar 4. The spring 9 prevents spreading of the remainder of the roll, and the outwardly angled lug 10 causes a corner portion of the paper normally projecting below the cutter bar to extend outwardly, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4f, thereby enabling said corner portion to be readily grasped for the purpose of drawing an additional supply ofv paper from the roll. This attachment can be applied to any of the usual forms of paper holding devices and can be made for attachment to either the right or left hand end of the cutter bar.

In applying the invention to new devices of this kind the bar 4L and the loop 5 may be formed integral with the cutter bar, by simply extending the length of the bar and bending one end into the proper shape to form said loop.

That I claim is:

A device of the kind described compris- -ing in combination with a paper holding device, a cutter bar, a second bar parallel thereto, means for connecting the second mentioned bar with an end of the cutter bar, a spring carried by and at right angles to the inner end portions of the second mentioned bar, and a laterally and outwardly extending lug arranged adjacent said spring, the pap-er traveling over said second mentioned bar, spring and lug and beneath the cutter bar as the paper is drawn from the holder, said lug causing a projecting corner portion oi' the paper to normally extend outwardly.
