Application filed September 24, 1912., Serial :No. 722,097.
provide an adjustable stop for the neckiyokey whereby the same may be readily adjusted for long or short coupled: horses.
7 The invention consists of ametal tip ;pro-
vided with a guide, a stop adjustable in the guide, and means forasecuring the stop in the adjusted positiomsaid means being easily operable and arranged to be protected from injury.
The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction, and combination of parts, which? hereinafter will be more particularly set iforth,; illustratedin the accompanying d1-awing,:and pointedout in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawing, forming a part of the specification, Figure ,1 is a side view of the forward end of a vehicle pole provided with a metala tipzand adjustable stop embodying the invention; Fig. 2 :is a 1ongitudinal section: Ofthe parts illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is: a transverse section on the line ww of Fig. 1. Fig.4 is a detail perspective View of the adjustable stop and means whereby the same is secured to the tip in the adjustedposition.
Corresponding; and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in allfthe views of the drawings, by the same reference characters.
The metal tip 1 is in the nature of a sleeve or socket to be slipped upon the end; of the pole or tongue 2, said tip having an extended bottom side to fitlong polesso as to provide for ample adjustment ofthe neck yoke stop. A guide 3 is provided uponthe bottom side of the tip 1 and consists of inturned or recurved flanges. A plurality of openings 4: are formed in the vbottomxside :of the tip between the side flanges or members of the guide 3. The tip when slipped upona the end of the pole or tongue 2:may be secured in any manner, asbyrivets 5.
Theneck yoke step comprises a base 6 and a stud :7, the latter being pendent from:
the forward end of the base 6 and having a depresslon 8 near its upper end upon the forwand side to provide aseat to receive the eye 9 oftheneck yoke 10. A brace 11 is secured to the lower end of the stud 7 and to the rear, end of the base6. A spring 12i is secured at one end to the stud 7 and its opposite end passes through an opening; 13:
of thebase 6 and projects above. said base to enterany one of the openings 4 so as to;
hold the neckfyoke stop in the adjusted position alonggthe pole tip. The brace 11 besides strengthening the stud 7 also forms a guard to protect the spring 12. h
After the tip has been slipped upon the end of the pole or tongue 2 and made fast the neck yoke stop is fitted in the guide 31 and moved to the adjusted position, being; held fast :by means of a pin; or thickened part at the free end of the spring 12, which enters the selected openmg of theseries 4.
When it is required to adjust the neck stop:
the rear end of the spring 12 is depressed,
therebywithdrawing its end or the pin carried thereby from engagement with the tip when the stop may be moved inthe guide:
3 to therequired position and upon release ing the spring 12 the stop will be held fast in the manner stated.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, theiadvantages of the construction and of; the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the inventioniappertains, and while I have described theprinciple of operation of the invention, together with 1 the device which} I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof,:I desire to have it understood that the deviceishown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be :made when desired as are within the scope of the claim appended hereto. i
Having thus described the invention what 1 is claimed as new, is r In combination; a pole tip provided with a guide and aplurality of openin s alon the length ;of the guide,a neck y ke sto;
comprising; a base and a pendent stud slidablymounted in the ingthe lower end of the stud with the rear guide, a brace connectportionof the'base, and a spring secured at one end to the stud andhaving its oppo-- in presence of two witnesses site end portion extending through an open Q I f f f ing in the base and adapted to engage any WILLIE B 5 onetof the openings of thetipto hold thev Witnesses: v I
stop; in the adjusted position, said spring CfinsTER A.- BERRY, being arranged be'tweenthe base and brace. H. L. BOON. g i 1 copies of this peg-tent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the; Commissioner; of Patents Washington, D. 0.
