Be it known that I, WAL'IERV I ILMAZE, a
citizen .of the United States, residing at the city of Peru, in the county of Lasalle'and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in screens, particularly to making such screens more durable and the objects of my improve- 'ment are to fasten the wire screen or, cloth to the frame in such-a manner that thewater or moisture will be kept out of the fastening and that of relievingthe wire screen or cloth at the fastening "so that the screen or cloth will not break at this point from the action of the wind bending same. '1
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a partial cross sectional view: of an ordinary screen showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a partial front view of the screen shown in Fig. 1. Fig; 3 is a partial cross sectional view showing a modification of my invention.

In the drawings 1 represents the frame of my screen which may be notched as shown, 2 is the wire or cloth screening member which has a plastic member 4 filled. into its meshes along its edge and extending out on both sides thereof as shown. This plastic member 4 and the screening member 2 are fastened to the frame 1 bymeans of the strip 3'and the nails 5 which nails 5 pass through said strip 3 plastic member4 and screening member 2 into the frame 1. This plastic material composing the member tshould preferably be a nonabso'rbing preservative material and may be applied to the edge of the screening member 2 by'molding, pouring or brushing same on the edge'of samebefore inserting the screening member in the frame; or; the screening member can be put into the frame and the plastic. member can then be poured or brushed into position; or the plastic member can be formed up into strips one of which can be inserted in' the framebefore inserting the screening member, and the other can -be put in position against the screening member after said screening mem- 'fastening, so that the wire or cloth fabric will not rust or corrode out at the fastening as it will in the screens made before my invention. It is fuither'evident that this plastic member will reinforce the screening mem- .ber at the fastening so it can not be bent sharply at this point, but the bending such as'is caused by the action of the wind will be distributed over a larger area making it practically impossible to break the sc i'eening member at this point; t
As itis well known that in the screens as made heretofore, the weakest part of the screening member was immediately adjacent to the fastening'kin the frame, and in my screen this has been overcome,- it is evident that my screen will last very much longer than those made before my invention.
It will be understood of course, that while I have here shown one form of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact form shown and described but wish to have it taken in a sense illustrative of any or'all forms of my invention as fairly come within the scope of my claim.
I claim:- In a screen? the combination of a frame, a wire fabric adapted to be afplied tothe frame, plastic material -applie to the edges of the 'wire fabric and projectin laterally .upon opposite sides thereof, an securing strips for fastening the Jedges of the wire fabric to the frame, the said plastic material servingto prevent moistu'refrom reaching the edge portions of the wire fabric and the portions of the plastic material projecting .laterally from opposite sides of the wire fabri'c' servin to hold the fabric spaced both from the rame and the securing strip so that the wire fabric can not be bent sharply at the junction thereof with the frame.
