L. S. DORSBY.
FOUNTAIN OUSPIDOR. APPLIGATION FILED JULY 18, 1912.
Patented Apr. 8, 1913.
f UNITED STATES PATENT oar-ton Lin-tron 'noasuv, or Moeo LoN, new MEXICO.
roun'min-cusrmon.
- To all whom man concern Be it known that I, LIN'roN S. DORSEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mogollon, in the county of Socorro and State of New Mexico, have invented certain The object of the invention is to provide a simpl; constructed cuspidorhaving means for fius ing it without removing it from its position.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawingsflligure 1 represents a side elevation of acuspidor constructed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 represents a horizontal section taken on the line '3-3 of-Fig. 1; Fig.4 is a side elevation partly in section'of the inner receptacle.
In the embodiment illustrated a cylindrical casing 1 is shown having an inverted truncated cone-shaped bottom 2 with a cen tral opening 3 therein designed to be connected with a discharge pipe for carrying off the deposits in the cuspidor and the water used for flushing it, said pipe being connected with any suitable sewer or other discharge conduit. Secured to the upper end of the casing 1 is a substantially bowlshaped member 4, the walls of which flare outwardly. Around the edge of this bowlshaped member 4 is a hollow rim 5 provided with a plurality of upwardly directed radial perforations as 6, for a purpose to be described. A water supply or feed pipe 7 extends longitudinally of the cylindrical casing 1, preferably on the inner face thereof, and connects at the upper'end of said casing with a similar pipe 8 extending transversely or radially of the bowl-shaped. receiving member 4, said pipe 8 being here shown arranged on the outer face of said Specification of Letters Eat-cut. Application flied. July 18, 1912. Serial No. 710,315.
- member. This pipe 8 connects at its upper end with the hollow rim 5 and is designed to supply water thereto, which is discharged through the perforations 6 .with suiiicient force to cause the various streams to meet at the center of said rim and splash on the inner face of the member 4 from whence itwill flow with the deposits collected dur ing its passage over the face of the member- 4: into the cylinder 1, thus thoroughly fiushing and cleansing the cuspidor. The feed pipe 7 is designed to be connected with any suitable water supply under pressure, such as the water main. of a city, and may be controlled by a suitable cock 9, whereby the watermay be entirely cut oil from the cuspidor when desired.
As shown, this cuspidor is provided with an inner receptacle in the form of a cylindrical shell 10 having-a perforated bottom 11 and agroove 12 extending longitudinally thereof and adapted to slidably engage the feed pipe 7 arranged on the inner face of the casing 1, whereby said shell is held against turning withinsaid casing and is guided in its vertical movement therein.
The upper end of this shell 10 has an inwardly extending annular flange 13, which.
forms means for removing-the shell from the casing 1 when desired. Secured to the Patented Apr. 8,1913.
inner edge of this flange 13 is a flared mouth 14 having the outer face cf its free edge beveled which is designed to seat on the inner edge of the bowl-shaped member l and form a continuation thereof with the inner faces of said members iand'l arranged flush with each other td provide an unobstructed surface for the passage of the deposits. This shell 10 is designed to collect deposits of all kinds and prevent large particles from passing off through the discharge pipe of the casing 1 and thereby clogging said pipe, said shell being readily removable for emptying the contents thereof and for cleaning.
From'the above description, the operation of the device it is thought will be obvious,
the water being supplied under pressure from the main through ftheplpes 7 and 8 and passlng out through the perforations G in the hollow rim 5 with sufiicient force to,

Whilethis cusp'idor is'described as cylindrical in sha e, it' is obvious that it may be of any suitab e or desired conformation and composed of any suitable material, prefer- From the fore description taken connection ..with the accompanying drawings, the constructionand operation of the invention will be readily understood without reqiiirin a more extended explanation.
