This invention relates particularly to cabi nets adapted to be placed on counters or show-cases 'to facilitate the sale of small ar ticles of merchandise.

The primary object is to provide an improved cabinet of simplified construction and improved operation.

ln the form illustrated, the cabinet comprises a. casing A having a front chamber A and a rear chamber @12. The chamber A. is formed with a bottom 1; a rear wall 2; side walls '3; and a front wall 4.- The wall. 4 is rudimentary, while the wall 2 is of considerably greater height; and the upper edges ot the side walls 3 are sloping. The chamber A is itted. with a lid or cover comprising a rectangular frame and a glass pane fitted therein. The frame of the cover 5 may be of metal. 1t is provided at its lower corners with pivot-lugs 6 which embrace the a jacent portions of thev sides 3, and are joined by pivots 7 to said sides 3. The arrangement is such that the cover or lid may be sii/until about the pivot 7 to a standingr position, as indicated by broken dotted lines. ln this operation, the cover may be swung to a position a little beyond the vertical, so 'that the lower edge portion ot' the` cover will hear against Athe 'ivall 4, thus supporting the cover in standing position.

A cabinet of the character described is simple, cheap, of ornate appearance, and is Well adapted for its purpose. In use, the cabinet will be placed upon a counter' with the compartment A turned to'ward the front, While the compartment A2 Will be. accessible to a clerk behind the counter.

What I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A cabinet comprising a casing having a front display chamber and a rear storage chamber, said storage chamber provided with a series of rearwardly-open compartments arranged side by side, anda series of upright closure-slides one less in number than said compartments and shiftable to give access to any desired compartment.

2. A cabinet comprising a casing having its front portion provided with. a display chamber and its'rear portion provided with a storage chamber, a series of rearwardlyopen upright compartments in said storage chamber, a guide at the rear upper portion of the storage chamber, and a series of closure-slides suspended from said guide.

3. A cabinet comprising a casing having its Jfront portion provided with a display chamber equipped With an inclined transparent cover and having its rear portion provided with a storage chamber, a series ot rearwardly-open compartments in said storage chamber, a rod. disposed adjacent the rear upper portion of said storage chamber, and a series ofclosure-slides suspended from said rod.

4. .A cabinet comprising a series ot rearwardly-open upright compartments a guide near the rear upper corners of said compartments, and a series of closure-slides suspended 'from said guide.

5. A cabinet comprising a series of rear- Wardly-open upright compartments having inclined bottoms, a transverse rod near the rear up'per portion of said compartments, and a. series et closure-slides suspended from said rod.

6. A cabinet comprising a chamber fitted with a series of upright compartments open at their rear sides, a transverse rod disposed near the rear upper corners ot said minpart ments, a series of closure-slides suspended from said rod, and a guide member loosely confining the lower portions oi said closureslides.

7. A cabinet comprising a chamber, a series of members disposed in said chamber and forming coi'npartments, each member comprising a rear Wall, a side wall and a bottom wall, said members placed side by side to form said compartments, and a series of upright closure-slides one less in number than said compartments, for the purpose set forth.

8. A cabinet comprising a casing having a front display chamber provided with an inclined rear Wall and a storage chamber in the rear of said Wall, a series of members in said storage chamber forming compartments, each member comprising a side wall, a bottom wall and a rear Wall, the rear walls oi", said members secured to the dividing w all bet-Ween said display chamber and storage chamber, and a series of upright closureslides in the rear of said compartments, said cl3' sure-slides being one less .in number than said compartments.

A cabinet comprising a casing having a front display chamber and a rear storage chamber, said display chamber haring lateral walls provided with rearWardly-sloping upper edges, a transparent cover for said display chamber having its front. portion pivotally connected with the t'ront portion of said display chamber, a series of rearwardlyopen compartments in said storage chamber, and a series of upright, laterally-shiftable closure-slides disposed in the rearl ot said compartments, said closi1re-slides,being one less in number than said compartments.
