The nature. ofmy invention .cousists in the consir-notion and arrangement of 'a fdoubleheating fireplace, that is, a double grate" or basket to heat two adjoining rooms at the same time with one fire, as will he hereinafter fully set forth. p y I In order to enable othersskilled in the art to which my inventionlappertainsto make and use the same, I'will nowproceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in
; which Figure 1 is a front view, part in section and .I Figure 2 is a side view, also part in section.
' The flue in whichuny heater is to be.placed, must be built open'through from one room to the other, so
thatitheheatermay be placed in the" center, giving height.
The upper end of the shell A forms the neck-B, which sits in the fluehetween the arches.
In each end of the heater is a passage, 0, with airholes in the bottom for the purpose. of letting dust, soot, 850., pass up the chimney.
In the bottom of the shell Ais placed a semi-ch. cular grateor basket, D.
The shell is open at the hottom,a'nd front and rear (sides, as above mentioned, and is provided. with grooves along the sides of this entire opening, in which grooves is placed a sliding door, E. This door is intended to coveror close one half of this opening, that is, the entire rear and half of the bottom, and it is formed of a series of horizontal bars or plates hinged together, either forming very close joints or overlapping each other. v
The door E is, also, provided with a handle, G, so that it can readily be moved to close either side ot' the. heater, and thus turn thefire' from one room to the other in a moment, without disturbing the grate.
- The door-isheld in either place by means of a -spring;,I. i In puttingt-his'heater up, there should. be made a .partition wall of brick for-itto rest upon, giving room forjthe door to passbetween sa'idwall and heater.
The same amount of'fnelzwused in common grates will, with this heater, keep two rooms warm at the same time, as it heats through the door E the same as throughai stove. And, when'desired, to make that room still warmer, the dcorcan be'readily shii'ted ina moment.
Having thus fully described-myinvention,
- What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters v Patent, is-- 1. In the construction of fines, building them 0pei1= through from one room to. another, substantially as
