LEUEIILIN O. JUN 'KIN, OF STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI.
COW-TAIL HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Y
Patented Apr. 1, 1913.
Application filed July 20, 1912. Serial No. 710,700.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEUELLIN O. J UNKIN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Starkville,
in the county of Oktibbeha and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cow-Tail Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to cow tail holders,
v and has for its object the production of a cheap and durable holder of the class described which is so formed as to be entirely out of the way when in use.
Another object of this invention is the production of a cow tail holder formed from a single strand of wire, and is so constructed as to not annoy the animal when in use.
With these and other objeots'in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, is a perspective view of the tail holder when in use. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow. 7 By referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that this evice consists of a pair of bowed arms 1 and 2 which are connected at their inner ends by the coil spring 3. The arm 1 extends in the same direction as the arm 2, and is provided near its outer end with the laterally bent portion 4. which terminates in the retaining hook 5, said retaining book 5 being provided with the upturned tip 6. The arm extends a considerable distance beyond the bent portion 4, and terminates in the two parallel spring arms 7, one of the sprin arms 7 being provided with the out-turns portion 8.
It will be seen by use of the retaining loop, a double locking means is formed since 2 within the retaining loop 5, but should is then sli Figure 1 the coil spring 3 weaken, the retaining loop 5 will hold the spring arm 7 independently of said spring. v When in use the device is placed upona hind leg of a cow, and the tail of the cow ped within the out-turned portion 8 an iback between the two spring arms 7. These spring arms 7 will grip the lower portion of the tail and securely hold the same. The arm 2 will then be placed in the retaining loop 5 by means of the upturned tip 6; In this manner a tail holder has been produced which is constructed of a single piece of wire which is so formed as to produce a' cheap and eflicient means for securely holding the tail, and preventing the cow from switching the same. There has thus been described a simple and efficient device of the character described, and for the purpose specified.
aving thus described the invention,
what is claimed as new, is Y A cow tail holder of the class described comprising a pair of bowed arms, a coil" spring carried by the inner end of said bowed arms, one-of said bowed arms terminating in a bent portion said bent portion terminating in a retalning loop provided with an upturned tip, the other of said bowed arms extending for a considerable distance beyond said bent port-ion of said first mentioned arm and terminating in a pair of parallel spring arms, one of said spring arms terminating in an out-turned portion, whereby the tail of the cow may be easily inserted and secured by said spring arms, and said upturned tip acting as a guiding means for placing said spring arms within said loop, said retaining loop and said coil spring acting as a double securing means for preventing said tail holder from becoming accidentally removed.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
'LEUELLIN o. JUNKIN.
