COLLAR-PACKAGE.
To all fui/zomz'zf may concern Be it known that I, NATHAN J. GOODMAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Packages, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in collar packages, and the object of my invention is to construct a package of the folded blank variety in such manner as to form a cylindrical closure for collars and provided with means whereby closures of different sizes may be made in order to hold different numbers of collars.
llVith the above purposes in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan of the complete blank from which my package is formed; Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the blank partially folded; Fig. 3 is a vertical, sectional elevation take-n on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; F 4 is a plan of the complete folded package showing by dotted lines a number of collars within the package and also showing in dotted lines a package to contain; a lesser number of collars; and F 5 is a vertical, seetional elevation taken on the line 5 l5 of Fig. 4.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 1 designates a strip of material, preferably paste board, of a width corresponding with the height of the collars to be packaged. At one end of the strip there is a series of transverse score lines 2, and at the opposite end of the strip integral with one of the side margins of the strip 1 there is a flap 3 of a length approximating the width of the strip l.

between the flap 3 and strip l in order to facilitate the bending of the flap.
In the operation of packaging collars the operator iirst determines the approximate size of package required by the number of collars to be packaged, then bends the body of the strip l into the circular form shown in Fig. 2 and draws one of the score marks 2 to register with the end margin of the iiap 3. The fiap 3 is then bent to overlap the strip l, and the end of the strip l beyond the flap 3 is doubled back over the flap 3. The collars are then placed within the cylindrical package and, due to their elasticity, they are firmly held within the package and tend to hold the end of the strip, which is folded backwardly, in a position to retain the flap which forms the loop 5 to embrace the flap 3, thereby holding the ends of the package against relative movement. The package containing the collars is then wrapped in an ordinary manner and, for the reason that the collars are prevented from springing outwardly, the wrapper is not likely to become loosened from the package, and the cylindrical package serves as a protector for the collars against being crushed by weights, such as other packages or bundles, being placed thereon.
I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a package comprising a strip having adjacent one of its ends a marginal lateral extension forming a iiap arranged to be folded between the body of the strip and the doubledback end of the strip, opposite the end carrying the iiap, said doubled-back end and said flap arranged to be held by the articles inclosed in the package, substantially as set forth.
