Description

P. F. SNYDER. PORTABLE CIRCULAR SAW. APPLICATION FILED JULY 8,1912,
Patented Mar. 25, 1913.
UNITED/STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER F. SNYDER, F DUQUESNE, PENNSYL ANIA.
PORTABLE CIRCULAR. SAW.
.1 '0 all wlwm it may concern ments in Portable Circular Saws, of which Be it known that I, PETER F. SNYDER, a
citizen of the United'States of America, re-' siding at -Duquesne, in the county of Alle gheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvethe following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg, i I
This invent-ion relates to a portable circular saw, and the objects of invention are to provide a circular saw "that can be easily and quickly shifted and adjusted whereby it can be conveniently positioned for immediate use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a. saw of the above type that is motor operated and the motor used as a counterbalance for maintainingthe saw in an elevated position and out of the road when not in use.
A further object. of this invention is to provide'a saw of the above type consisting of an inexpensive construction, novel adjustments and parts that contribute to an efficient machinel'or the purposes for which it is employed.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafterspecifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein a Figure 1 isa front elevation of the saw, and Fig. 2 is a. side elevation of the same.
Further dcscribiug my invention with reference to the drawing, wherein like nuinerals denote corresponding parts through out: 1 denotes a rail and movable upon said rail a hanger comprising triangular side frames 2 supporting revoluble flanged wheels 3 adapted to move upoh the rail 1. The lower. ends of the frames 2 are connected by a transverse pin 4 and suspended from said pin is a link 5.
{3 denotes a yoke swiveled upon the lower end of the link 5 and fulcrumed at the Specification of Letters Patent.
the yoke 6, said links and the arms 7 being adjustable relatively to the yoke.
11 denotes adjustable bearings carried by the outer ends of the arms 7 and mounted in said bearings is a transverse pin 12, Sus .pended' from said pin are extensible side.
frames 13 having the lower ends thereof provided with bearings 14 for a transverse revoluble shaft 15. One of the bearings 14 has a guard 16 for a circular saw 17 that is mounted upon one end .of the shaft 15. The shaft betweeen the suspended frames 13 has a grooved sheave 18 and revolubly mounted upon the transverse pin 12 is a grooved sheave 19. Passing over the sheaves 18 and 19 are endless cables or belts 20.
21 denotes the armature shaft of the motor 9 and mounted upon said shaft is a grooved sheave 22. Passing over this sheave and the sheave 19 are endless cables or' belts 23. r
handle 25 and a push button 26.. The push button 26 is connected by a wire 27 to a suitable source of electrical energy, as a generator, and by a wire 28 to the motor 9.
The motor 9 is connected by a wire 29 to Patented Mar. 25, 1913. Application filed July @1912. Serial Nd. 103,242.
the same source of electrical energy as the wire 27. -The suspended frames13 are reduced or increased .in their longitudinal dimension by adjustable side plates'30.
The housing 8 and the motor 9 serve as a counterbalance for the frames 13 and when thesaw 17 is not in use, the same is ele-' vated and out of the road.
The operator or attendant of the saw can easily grip the handle 2-5, lower the saw 17, push the but-ton 26 and'set the motor in operation, whereby the saw, 17 will be revolved through the medium of the endless cablcsor belts 2Q and 23.
It is apparent, from the construction just described that the saw can beswung in a horizontal plane or raised or lowered, thereby permitting the operator or attendant of the same, to conveniently use the saw in con-- nection with a piece of work. The saw can be located upon a row of carpenter benches and shifted from one bench to another when is susceptible to such changes as fall within and an electric motor carried by said housihe. soope of the appended claim. ing and adapted to impart a rotary movelVhat I claim is: ment to said saw. A portable saw comprising a rail, 21 In testimony whereof I affix my signature 5 hanger movable thereon, a yoke swiveled in the presence of two Witnesses.
