Be it known that I, ERIC H. LEN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of; Los .Angeles, State of California, have invented a certain new and useful CarpentersTool; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a 'carpenters tool, more particularly to one adapted to be conveniently used to mark or'scribe the notches or housings usually made in the strings of stairs to receive and hold therein the end portions of the riser and tread of the steps, and it may be said to consist in the provision of the novel features, and in the novel and improved construction, arrangement and combination of parts in the tool as will be apparent from the description and claim which follow hereinafter.

Objects of the invention are to provide a novel and improved tool of the nature specified, which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, easily and quickly adjustable, strong and durable, and

convenient and efl'ective in use.

Other objects and the advantages of the invention Will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a consideration of the fol lowing description of the preferred'iorm of' construction embodying the invention taken in connection Withthe accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tool, the nosing block being omitted; Fig. 2 is a view of parts that may be used for holding Q and locking in position the straight edge on the angle part, and Fig. 3 is a partial pen spective View of the angle part, showing the nosing block attached thereto.
