Specification ot Letters Patent..
'Patenten nan-25, lois.
Application filed December 13, 1911. Serial No. 6653145.
Lo all lw/'zvom- 'it may concern:
lie it known that l, JOHN THOMAS, of the city of l/Tinnipeg, in the Province of Manltoba,' Canada, have invented Certain new and useful improvements in Saws, of which the following is the specification.
ldith the above objects in view the inven-l :tion Consists essentially 1n the. arrangement and construct-ion of parts hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended 4olaiin.
Figure l is a Side elevation of the coni iiete device, part being broken away to construction. Fig. 2 is a plan View ot a vertical sectional view7 tion being 'takenA in the plane denoted line X X', Fig. 1. fi isa verical sectional view through the sav.I freine, Vhe section beinf taken iii-the plane denoted by the line Y Y, 1. Fig. is a vertical Seccional. vienv through the sau', 'the seo tion beingtaken in the plane` denoted b v the line Z E", Fig. B. Fig, 3 tional vie-iv through the trame, the section being taken the plane denoted by the line l Tlig. 1.
in the drawing lilre characters of refereneeindiate corresponding parte in each ligure.
1 represents thesaw freine which coinprises a' handle 2 supplied with a Suitable hand grip and having the center thereof Slotted or cut away atl and a slidahle baiil received within the slot and retained therein by s bly located side pieces .(3 and 7. The handle earries a spring catch piece 8 which poses upwardly through an opening il reserved in the handle and engages with the under side of the bar which is toothed at 10. @ne can set the bar in any desired position by withdrawing the 'catch piece and moving it. baohwardly or forwardly as the case may be and then'releasing the catch niece to engage with one or other ot' the teeth. bai-,j is supplied with a lateral extension if. whiehcarriee a stub axle 12 on is a vertical secA which l have mounted a rotatable flywheel 13 which carries a chain Wheel lll, the chain wheel being fastened to the tiy Wheel by suitable bolts 15. i
16 is a gripping piece Supplied on the ily wheel wherebj,7 it can be readily turned.'
17 is a rod permanently set at 18 within the handle and extending forwardly centialljy7 Within the slotand into the bar 5, which bar is supplied with an opening 19 to receive it slidably. A' spiral spring '20 encircles the rod and bears at the ends against the end of the slot and the rear end of the bar thereby causing the handle 3 to move in a direction opposite from the saw blades 29 and 34, when the latch 8 is out of engagement with the bar 5. Y
Q1 is a Cross plate located at the forward end of the handle and closing the end ot' the slot, Q2 a cross shaft mounted rotatable',T in the forward end of the bar and havingr one end thereof threaded at 23 and a squared enlargement formed thereon at Q4 adjoining the 'threaded end.
25 is a Washer on the Shaft and located at one Side ofthe bar5 and 2G is a removable collar also lofated on the shaft and appearing at the opposite side of the bar. The collar is supplied lwith an adjusting screw 7 u'hich holds it in a fixed position on the ialt.
28 ie a disk slid on the Squai'ed enlargenient. 94e ot the shaft, and 29 is a circular saw blade carried also by the enlargement and secured to the disk by releasable bolts 30.
31 is a washer on the shaft and adjoining the outer tace of the saw blade, and 432 is av elmin wheel having a squared center slipped on the enlargement Qi and held in position thereon by a removable nut 33 screwed on to tho threaded ond of the shaft. lt will be seen thalthis construction is such that the dish with the saw can be removed from the shaft by renwving the nut 8i-h and furthe-r that the saw blade can be taken from the disk by unfastening the bolts 30. However when the saw is in use this saw blade can be termed permanent, that is, it is not adjustable on the Shaft.
34 is a second adjustable saw blade fastened by removable bolts 35 to a second disk :i6 carried by the shaft., which dissi/ ie,
sie
paraiiel cuts it is only; :necessary to ajust 10 shaft, and than the bar in Wimeve 20 the. smv as they rotate,
v *ting crew which engages with the it nd allows the. disk with 'the saw t0 be 3 391s a cham connecting with the Chmn Wha-e1 M.
V" i'ie saw im making Ehe 03min wheel' msn one is using tia@ saw blade b vkioaenin' :and again ightenmg the adnisimg screw 1f on me of 4i-he cui; being indicned by he. vaiiable diaanc@ (see figs. l and 21) bsiween the periphery of the saw biadf-s and the cui. the adjusting screw 38 is osb'ele? and i masas-ir? the Saw nlae 341 if; i fi have pzu'ifrnim' y designed the. saw 0 than: boh the smv Macias anni the disks can ne l'ef 'ily remuve, 'thereby iiowing others of diifex'cnt sizes to besubstitnled. The coilnr 2G pravens theshai't from end play and iS l'emnvable to allow the shaft to be withdzmn zem the br.
That l daim as my invention is A hand saw Comprising i1 frame, n imf rni'ntabiy snljiporied on the exi'ien'iity 01"' the frame, a notched disk rotatable with said simili? a rnfiy sim' blade sscured in ,said disk, means for rotating said saw Nadu, mid disk being adapted to engage Lne n'nrk when the. saw has cnt a prm'lereiimined depth thus musing said blade to advance.
