The 100 v...invention contemplates a rectangular iuillflle point ol the lever 8 is pirotally .;sysem of' levers, which in eect provides, in mounted upon (he hraelie (S. This is prefsingle System of levers, two complementary eruhly done by providing on upward exten- "le 3ftongs ,which operaie at righi. angles to sion i3 ofthe breaker o, such extension being oooh other, .two of the merilbers of one of provided willi en eye lhrough which the pin 105 lthe lazy-tongs being eontinuations of two of 12 passes, thus permitting of a slight roekthe' members of the other lazy-tongs. Thus y ing of the pivot l2 in its Sockel'. ilieo'peration of one 'set of lazy-tongs by lthe To the corner al which the lever 9 and l() vertical rod causes the complementary aeare pivotecl ogelhor, as'by a pin 17, there i'oiion of the other set of lazy-tongs and is clamped mi exleneion 14.l he end or which 110 Cil Aends ot the levers`8 and 9.
It Willfbe noted that the levers l and 18 and the ends ot the levers S and E) constitute a lazy-tong structure, one end of which is pivoted to the window sash and the other end to the Ybracket which supports the traveler rod. Such lazy-tong structure @vill in its operation produce a straight push or pull upon the window sash. ln order to produce such operation of said lazy-tongs I provide another of lazy-tongs, twoof the elements ot' which comprise the other Another elemento said last mentioned lazy-tongs consists ot the intermediate lever 18, and the fourth element thereof consists of the end lever 11 which connects the ends of the parallel side levers S and 9. The corner at which the rods 5) and 1l are connected by the pin 19 is secured to the traveler rod 3. This is pret'- erably done by clamping to said rod 3 a bracket 20, the upper end of which is formed with a socket for receiving the pin 19. Thus the second set of lazy-tongs voperates in a direction perpendicular'to the direction of operation of said first mentioned set of lazytongs. That is, when the traveler-rod 8 is moved s0 as to bring the corners 19 and 12 ot' o-ne set of lazytongscloser together as shown in Fig. 2, the other set of lazy-tongs is extended. It thus appears thatfor opera- A tively connecting the travelenrod to the my invention, in its preferred en'ibodi-- ment, provides in efl'ect two sets of lazytongs having complementary operation and comprises a unitary structure consisting of two parallel side levers 8 and 9, and two parallel end levers 10 and 11 pivoted together at their ends, the sideY levers 8 and 9 being connected at their middle points by an intermediate lever 18 pivoted at its ends to said levers. The middle point of the lever S is thefixed end of each of the two coinplementary .lazy-tongs and` is pivotally mounted upon a bracket, the pivotal point of said lever being in vert-ical alinement with the traveler-rod 8. The other ends vof the two lazy-tongs are secured to the hinged sash and the traveler-rod, respectively.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with a hinged sash;
of an operating-rod extending parallel thereto; means for imparting longitudinall motion to said operating rod; and a rectangular system of levers interconnecting said sash .and rod, comprising two side levers and two end levers pivoted together, the corners of the rectangleat the opposite ends of one of said side levers being pivotally secured to said sash .and said rod, respectively; and a fixed supportto,\vhich the middle point of said other side lever is pivot-ally secured A 2. The combination with a hinged sash; of an operating-rod extending parallel thereto; means for imparting longitudinal motion i to said operating rod; and a rectangular system of levers interconnect-ing said. sash and rod, comprising t-Wo side leversand two end levers pivoted together, and anintermediate lever pivoted at its ends to the midto; means for imparting longitudinal motion point rof to said operating rod;'and means for opera- B5 tively connecting said rod and said sash, said y 1 means comprising a unitary structure consisting of two complementary acting sets of lazyftongs having a common lixed pivotal 7,
point and having their movable ends pivot- 9D ally secured to said sash and said traveler rod respectively. Y
ln witness whereof, I, hereunto subscribe. my name this 30th day of July, A. D., 1912.5
