A. pcation led September 19, 1908. Serial No. 453,72l.
To all wwm may comem.'
Be it known that El, ROBERT W7. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, Tesldin at Bronxvillacounty of llestcliestenand tate the same ease as has formerly been the cuss tom, but to prevent 'its i'emoval without the use of some special tool oi" key.y
In caz'i'ying out the invention, l provide 'means either on the socket oi' on the lamp base which means 1n essence consist oi a spilng or its equivalent device, which will contract and hug the shell to which it is secni'ed, upon the rotation of the lamp when the same is seing inseited, but which will expand oi' los displaced Awhen lamp is Teveiseiy rotated as when it is being removed.
En ceirying out my invention, il prefei to maite use of a spival spring fastenefi et one en@ like e. helical clutch, and tee at the otliei end, and i p'ovide a key to gasp the iee end to Tende-f the clutch-like opesation m7. when spring is secured. to the lamp base, it is scented neat tlie top thereof, anni its caiiss to extend clownwaidljy neat` the siti-Tt of te socket shell, so that. a tool oi key maj; los causen?, to gzasp this and of the spying; and tiie tool apos its imitation, rotate the spying, cause it ty tigiitly, and thusotate the and permit it to be enioveol. Tfr/'lieti spring instead of being secos/eti to tlie loose, is secos-eti to the socket, l pioviflc ineens to allow a key to expand the spring to casse it to img the intarsio? walt of the shell, so that the lamp may lne untlxreaefl so long as spsizie is held in this position, out not lielcl mere rotation ot the will cause the spring to more anrl more ti@ l* p :'oase, and prevent its iemova ordinati? function of a spiin clutch.
'lll-1e scopeoi my l i o nog tice oase Inl the ecco v nyiig cl'awiiigs is a side elevi ion lomp and socl' lion, with tlie iei Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the key. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of part of the lamp socket enlarged and a side ele.- vation ot the base, partly broken away. Fig. i is a sectional view in plan on line Fig. 8, showingr the lamp with its spring gripping the shell of the socket, so that upon the rotation of the lamp the gripping effect will be increased. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4, but showing the position o' the knife edge of the spring, when the same has been moved in the direction of the arrow to permit the removal of the lamp by a contraction ot the spring. Fig. 6 is a view of the inodied construction of lamp base, showing' a collar instead of knife edge tot the fiee terminal of tahe spving. Fig. 7 is a sectional plan view on line 7*-5?, Fig. 6. Fig. 8 shows a Emp base quite simile-i to the lamp base of 3, but. wittiawai'd projecting the knife enige. Fig. 9 is a section on line 9-9 Fig., 8. Fig. 10 is a perspective view of the key for use in the clevice of Finis. 8 and 9.
