To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHNF. Yos'r, residing in Arkansas City, county of Cowley, and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fastening means forpaper boxes cardboard boxes, and other similar artic es, and the invention generically resides inrproviding such awhox'with two overlapping closure flaps, each 'tifwhich has a locking tongue to enter a slot in the other flap, the slots and tongues being so located that one tongue overlapsthe other and forms a lock therefor.
More subordinately the invention includes those novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all of which will be first fully described, and then be specifically pointed out in the, appended claims, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which l y Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folding box with my invention applied, the box being partly open. The flap 5 has a secondary tongue 7 which is; preferably stamped out of the flap 5 as at and the tongue 7 is adapted to enter the secondary slot} in the flap 2,-as best indicated in Figs. 2,4 and 5 of the drawings. Both tongues 3 and 7, and their respective slots 6 and 4, lying preferably inthe same transverse alinement as indicated in the drawing. v i
In Fig. 6 is shown another form of box 1 with the invention applied. In this form, the fiap, 2 has the-tongue 3 and slot. 4*- while the other flap 5 has the slot 6 and the tongue 7*.
By stampin the tongues-7, 7", or 7", from the flap on w ich it 's earned, the end 7 (see Fig. 5) of the tongue, will lie inside the box when fastened, and will lie in the opening 8 flushed with the inside of box so as not to form an obstruction to the contents of the box.
In the useof a box employing my invention, the flap 2 carries the'main or prima-r so j tongue 3 and is folded over the flap 5. The
main tongue 3 is then projected into the slot 6 after which the secondary tongue 7 is passed into the. secondary slot 4 tothereby securely hold the box closed.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, it is thought the complete construction operation and advantages of the invention will be apparentto those skilled in the art.
What I claim is r V 1. In a box, two closure flaps foldable one over the other, a main tongue projecting from the free edge of the first flap, the sec- I 0nd flap having a main slot to receive said main tongue, when said flaps are folded over, said-first flap having a secondary slot, a secondary tongue carried by said second flap to fold over said first flap and enter said secondary slot, said secondary tongue being stamped out of-said second flap to leave an opening therein, said opening adapted to receive the end of said secondary tongue when. itis projected over said secondary slot.
