MAX ROBERT RITTER, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
DEVICE FOR DRYING VENEER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1913.
Application filed October 18, 1912. Serial No. 726,533.
To all whom it may camera;
Be it known that 1, MAX ROBERT RrrrER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Altona, Hamburg, in the German Empire, have invented a new and useful De vice for Drying Veneer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention refers to a device for drying veneer and has the object to carry out the drying process in a very short space of time. This object in view the veneers are placed on reciprocating or oscillating frames or hurdles so as to impart to the veneers a reciprocating movement with respect to the surrounding air. Thereby the air is caused to circulate about all surfaces of the veneers, which thus are speedily and evenly dried throughout.
A drying device constructed to carry out this invent-ion is shown in the drawings of which Figure 1 is an elevation and Fig. 2 an end view of the device.
The framework a of the device comprises a number of posts 6 to which the hurdles 0 are rotatively attached by means of pins (Z. The hurdles are provided with clamping arms or jaws e, which bear against the veneers laid on the hurdle and are held down, at their ends by straps or clasps f.
The hurdles are prolonged beyond their pivot pins cl and by these prolonged ends they are connected by pins h to slides 2', suitably guided on the posts I). These slides 2' are moved up and down by the aid of a crank or crank-disk Z keyed to the shaft is and connected with the slide 2' by the crank rod m. The reciprocating movement of the slide may be attained by any other means for instance by the aid of eccentrics instead of an ordinary crank or crank disk. In reciprocating up and down the slides z impart an oscillating movement to the hurdles and therefore also to the veneers attached to the same.
The shaft 70 carries loosely a driving pulley n, which may be operatively connected wit-h the shaft by a clutch 0. When this clutch is thrown out of gear the movement of the hurdles is stopped. Each group of a number of hurdles (that is the hurdles belonging to each post 1)) may be disconnected from the rest or may be made inoperative independently, so as to adapt the device to divers lengths of veneers.
I claim:
1. A device for drying veneer comprising posts, an oscillating hurdle pivotally attached to each post and clamping-arm for fastening veneer to the hurdle.
2. A device for drying veneer comprising a framework provided with posts, a number of oscillating hurdles pivotally attached to the posts and clamping arms pivotally attached to the hurdles.
3. A device for drying veneer comprising a framework provided with posts, a number of oscillating hurdles pivotally attached to the posts and clamping arms pivotally attached to the hurdles and having straps at their outer ends to fasten the arms to the hurdles, when filled with Veneer.
4:. A device for drying veneer comprising a framework provided with posts, a number of oscillating hurdles pivotally attached to the posts, clamping arms pivotally attached to the hurdles, slides suitably guided on the posts and operatively connected to the hurdles to impart oscillating movement to the hurdles.
5. A device for drying veneer comprising a framework provided with posts, a number of oscillating hurdles pivotally attached to the posts, clamping arms pivotally attached to the hurdles, slides suitably guided on the posts and operatively connected to the hurdles to impart oscillating movement to the hurdles, a shaft, and a number of cranks carried by the shaft and crank rods to connect the cranks with the slides.
MAX ROBERT RITTER.
