To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FRANK DE NICK and JOSEPH F. M.'BALD1, citizens of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the `following isa specification.

The Vinvention relates to exhibitors, and more particularly to the class of fabric display devices.

The primary object of the invention is the provision' of a device wherein bolt fabric or strip c-lothdesigns can be displayed in a unique manner to give to a prospective customer a view of the fabric or cloth as it will appear in garment form'or made up in a suit, trousers, or the like, .thus enabling a person to definitely ascertain the-effect of -fabric prior tothe making of the suitl therefrom.

In the drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display device constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the manner of connecting the stand plat-form to the device. Fig; 4 is a fragmentary perspective-view of the track construction for the removable pattern frames of the device, the frames being detached.

Referring to the drawingsV by numerals, the display device comprises a stand including a base or bottom .10, side walls 11, rising therefrom, the same being joined y through the medium of a lower cross sill 12,

superposed with respect to the said base or bottom v10, and arranged at the front of the said stand, the base or bottom 10 being formed with depending legs 13, in which are mounted casters 14, whereby the said stand may be moved from one point to another in a convenient manner. The stand 11 is open at its front and rear, and is designed to receive removable` patternA frames presently described. Mounted in the stand are forwardly inclined yspaced parallel alining i rows of intermediate and outer brace bars 15 and 16 respectively, the lower ends of which are formed integral with the bottom sill 12, while the upper ends are'formed with inturned and upwardly bent guide heads 17 which vare connectedV or integral with horizontally disposed transversely arranged guide tracks 18, which extend entirely across-the stand and are connected to the sides 11 thereof.

' The bottom sill 12 is formed with spaced parallel transversely arranged guide grooves or channels 19 which coperate with'the guide heads 17 for permitting the sliding and removal of the pattern frames presently described.

Each pattern frame comprises an elongated sash 20`having the usual open center and in which is fitteda glass panel 21 provided With the usual mirror back or silver coating on the rear face thereof, the said back or coating being cut away on predetermined lines to provide a garment pattern 22 simulating the form of any desired gar- Y ment. The cut away portion of the mirrored back or silver coating, effecting the garment form, aifords a transparent pattern in the said panel 21, so that fabric or design cloth when disposed against or near to the vas it or they would actually appear when upon a wearer. Each sash 20 is provided at its lower end edge with a guide'flange 23 for engagement in the grooves 19 while at the opposite upper end of the sash 20 and fixed to the rear 'side' thereof is a guide cleat 24 lwhich slidably engages the track 18, and in this manner each sash 2O can be moved transversely of thel Stand either tothe left hand or ri ht hand ofthe side thereof as shown in ig. 1 of the drawings.

The bolt of cloth 25 is placed upon t-he base or bottom 10 of the stand, and a sufficient amount of the cloth or .fabric which isin strip form is unwound from the bolt and is trained upwardly rearwardly of any one of the sashes 20 whenpositioned at the left hand side. in the stand through suitable guides 26 to the upper end of the said stand so as ,to cover the entire rear face of'the panel 21` whereby the fabric or cloth will be visible through a transparent space 22 in the` panel 21 thereby giving different appearances tothe observer as to the effect of the fabric or cloth when in garment form prior to the making up of the same in a garment. l f

Each sash 20 -in the vertical Stiles thereof near the lower end portion of the same is formed with bayonebshaped slots or notches 27, the same opening through. the rear side of the sash` for receiving the hook catches 28 of an adjustable supportin bracket 29. In this instanceonly one is sown, but it is to be understood that a pair of these brackets are employed and have connected 4thereto a stand platform 30 which projects rearwardly within the stand at the open rear side thereof, so that a person may mount the platform 30 rearwardly of the panel 21 in the sash 20 disposed at the left hand side ofthe stand, whereby the chin and head of such person will project in a chin niche 31 formed in the upper end of the said sash 2O directly above the pattern 22 and in this manner making itappear as if the person upon the platform 30 is attired with a garment simulating the pattern 22 through which is displayedl the fabric or cloth 25 to enable such person to determine the effec tiveness of such garment when made up with the particular fabric or cloth and whether` it will become such person when `worn. thereby enabling the person to select the fabric or clothsuitable to his'fancy, and to definitely `know the a pearancethereof when in garment form. rEhe brackets 29 are readily and easily adjusted on t-he sash20 so as to permit persons of different height to stand thereon. when `exhibiting thefabric or cloth for determining the appearance,

thereof when made up in garment form.

In the use of the device the same is posi'- l tioned so that the panel 21 having the selected pattern 22 thereon will face a mirror so that a person standing upon the platform 30 mayreadily glance in the mirrorto ascertain the reflection therein of the pattern 22 with the' cloth or fabric Adisplayed therethrough, so that said erson can ascer tain with certainty the e ect and the appearance of the Vcloth or fabric as tothe make up in garment form prierto the mak ing of such garment therefrom.

From the foregoing-description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,

It is contemplated to construct'the to permit the folding thereof when not' in l use, that is to say one side pection may be folded on to the other side section, and also in lieu of the; mirror in each pattern frame isinglass or other transparent material may be employed the same being suitably coated .and provided with transparent pattern by cutting away the coating in a like manner as heretofore described.

What is claimed is In a dev-ice of the class described, a mirror having a transparent portion definingv a p atp tern of wearing apparel, a framel receiving the mirror, a stand slidably supporting the frame, and a platform adapted for adjustable connection with the frame.
