Be it known that we, S'IANISLAUS Leooox and J osern Toncorrn, citizens of the United States, residing at Puwtucket, in the county of llrovidencc and State of .Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in. Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in looms, and relates more ulrticularly to an improved device for introducing a cord in what is known as leno or cross-weaving.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and economical mechanism for the purpose above set forth, in which the number of cords, depending upon the peculiarity of the weave, may be readily varied as desired.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is a frogmentary perspective view. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail fragmentary side elevations showing two positions of the disks that carry the cords, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail. side elevation of one of the cord carrying disks.
Each side of the loom frame is designated 1 in the drawings, and has an iuvertcd'U- shaped bracket 2 secured thereto, this especial shape of bracket being employed in order to accommodate and permit of free play of the rods 3 that connect the lay 4 with the crank shaft 5 to operate the latter during the process of weaving. The operation is as follows: The to and fro movement of the jack 15 causes corresponding movement of the strap 14, and the latter partially rotates the shaft 9 through 66 the intermediary of the pulley 13, the shaft upon outward movement of the jack being restored to normal position by means of the strap 16 and the spring 17, thus imparting to the shaft by lioned a rotary reciprocatory or alternating rotary movement. Since the disks 12 are mounted on the shaft 9, they partake of its stated movement, thus causing the disks to assume the two extreme positions depiclcd in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. When the disks are in the position shown in Fig. 4, the yarn 21. is depressed, thus causing, same to cross over the yarn 22 that extends through the openings 18, bringing the yarn 92 to the surface of the goods be ing woven, and when the shaft 9 is returned to normal position the yarn 21 will. be brought to the surface to be woven into the goods, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The raising of the yarn 22 to the position illustrated in l ig. t of the drawings is due to the fact that the opening 18 forms a shouldered abutment 23, which affects upward movement of the yarn.
